Aims: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potential complication of foot and ankle surgery. There is a lack of agreement on contributing risk factors and chemical prophylaxis requirements. The primary outcome of this study was to analyze the 90-day incidence of symptomatic VTE and VTE-related mortality in patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery and Achilles tendon (TA) rupture.

Hiding in plain sight: a brain lesion in a patient with a history of colon and breast cancer.

We present a case of a 76-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital with a low Glasgow Coma Scale score. She had a medical history of breast and colon cancer. The CT scan showed possible diagnosis of brain metastasis.

Background: (sage) is a native plant to the Mediterranean region and has been used for a long time in traditional medicine for various diseases. We investigated possible anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity effects of sage methanol (MetOH) extract in a nutritional mouse model of obesity, inflammation and insulin resistance, as well as its effects on lipolysis and lipogenesis in 3T3-L1 cells.

Methods: Diet-induced obese (DIO) mice were treated for five weeks with sage methanol extract (100 and 400 mg kg/day bid), or rosiglitazone (3 mg kg/day bid), as a positive control.
