Sonography of subcutaneous nodules following immunization with histopathological correlation: a three-case series.

Subcutaneous nodules are a rare adverse event following immunization frequently associated with suboptimal injection procedures and aluminium-containing vaccines. We present three cases of subcutaneous nodules following immunization describing their clinical signs, histopathological features and ultrasound findings and demonstrating the use of sonography as an aid to the diagnosis of this entity.

Large Cells With CD30 Expression and Hodgkin-like Features in Primary Cutaneous Marginal Zone B-Cell Lymphoma: A Study of 13 Cases.

The presence of CD30 cells in cutaneous lymphomas has come to prominence in recent years as a potential diagnostic and therapeutic marker. In primary cutaneous marginal zone B-cell lymphomas, the presence of large CD30 cells with Hodgkin-like features and their significance have not yet been studied. Here we describe the main clinical, histologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular characteristics of 13 cases of primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphomas featuring >10% of CD30 large cells, and analyze their relationship with histologic and clinical progression of the disease and with other morphologic and immunophenotypic features.

Primary Subcutaneous Synovial Sarcoma: First Reported Subcutaneous Case Showing TLE1 Immunoreactivity.

Synovial sarcoma (SS) accounts for 5%-10% of all soft tissue sarcomas. It is a well-defined soft tissue neoplasm with biphasic and monophasic histologic subtypes and unknown histogenesis. It usually occurs in the extremities, especially the thigh-knee region of young adults.

Clear Cell Atypical Fibroxanthoma: Clinicopathological Study of 6 Cases and Review of the Literature With Special Emphasis on the Differential Diagnosis.

Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is an uncommon dermal-based neoplasm arising on the sun-damaged skin of elderly people. Clear cell AFX is a rare variant with only 12 cases reported until the present date, all of them as case reports, except for 1 small series of 3 cases. The authors report 6 new cases and review the literature with special emphasis on the differential diagnosis.

Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma: a more aggressive neoplasm than previously estimated.

Background: Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) is a rare neoplasm sharing pathological features with atypical fibroxanthoma, but adding tumor necrosis, invasion beyond superficial subcutis or vascular or perineural infiltration. Although its metastatic risk has been estimated to be less than 5%, its real outcome is presently uncertain because of its rarity and to the lack of homogeneous criteria used in reported cases.

PLCG1 mutations in cutaneous T-cell lymphomas.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a heterogeneous group of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoproliferative processes, mainly composed of mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome, the aggressive forms of which lack an effective treatment. The molecular pathogenesis of CTCL is largely unknown, although neoplastic cells show increased signaling from T-cell receptors (TCRs). DNAs from 11 patients with CTCL, both normal and tumoral, were target-enriched and sequenced by massive parallel sequencing for a selection of 524 TCR-signaling-related genes.

EBV-associated hepatic smooth muscle tumor after lung transplantation: report of a case and review of the literature.

Post-transplant smooth muscle tumors (PTSMTs) are a rare and recently recognized neoplasm associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). We describe the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical and molecular features of a new case of EBV-associated PTSMT arising in the liver of a 55-year-old lung transplant recipient for lymphangioleiomyomatosis. To our knowledge, this is the third smooth muscle tumor (the second one proved to be associated with EBV) after lung transplantation.
