Reproducibility of Metacarpal Bone Mineral Density Measurements Obtained by Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry in Healthy Volunteers and Patients With Early Arthritis.

Reduction in cortical bone mineral density at diaphysis of metacarpal bones of the hand, evaluated by dual X-ray radiogrammetry, has a bad prognostic value in patients with early arthritis. Nevertheless, this technique is hardly accessible in clinical practice. By contrast, evaluation of cortical bone mineral density at that location has not been previously assessed by conventional dual X-ray absorptiometry.

Treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica.

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory disease characterized by bilateral pain involving predominantly the shoulders and proximal aspects of the arms and less commonly the neck and the pelvic girdle. This review discusses briefly the main epidemiological data and clinical features of this condition. Especial attention is paid in the management of the disease.

Adult-onset Still´s disease (AOSD) is a systemic inflammatory condition that affects mainly young people. The clinical course consists of two distinctive patterns: one with a predominance of systemic symptoms and another manifested by progressive chronic polyarthritis. Glucocorticoids remain the mainstay in the treatment of AOSD.
