Article Synopsis
- Inadvertent perioperative hypothermia (IPH), which occurs when core body temperature falls below 36°C, is a common complication during shoulder arthroscopy, especially under general anesthesia (GA).
- A study comparing GA and interscalene brachial plexus block (ISBPB) found a significantly higher incidence of IPH in the GA group (52.5%) compared to the ISBPB group (30.0%).
- The results suggest that using ISBPB instead of GA may help reduce the risk of IPH, as evidenced by higher post-anesthesia care unit temperatures in the ISBPB group.
