Article Synopsis
  • * The n-hexadecyl ionomer (n = 16) significantly reduces kinetics by up to 56.5% and 60% for H and CH, while the n-decyl ionomer (n = 10) achieves a 59.9% increase in Faradaic efficiency for CH production compared to its methyl counterpart.
  • * The research highlights that modifying side chains can enhance the selectivity of reactions and improve the overall performance of catalysts, achieving

This study developed an artificial biofilm of Rhodospirillum rubrum bacteria immobilized within an alginate matrix using electrophoretic deposition (EPD) on an electrode. The resulting biofilm immobilized bacteria effectively and maintained a high survival rate, facilitating stable and high-efficiency hydrogen generation for longer periods compared to biofilms produced using free bacteria. Hydrogen production efficiency remained constant when the substrate was periodically replaced, indicating that the bacteria could survive within the biofilm for long-term hydrogen production.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding molecular excitons in low-dimensional solids is crucial for fields like energy harvesting and display technology, yet their spatial dynamics remain inadequately studied.
  • Investigating 2D PTCDA crystals on hBN substrates reveals complex excitonic behaviors, including in-plane and out-of-plane evolution characterized by advanced spectroscopy and electron diffraction techniques.
  • As the layers thicken, exciting interactions between Frenkel and charge transfer excitons indicate enhanced coherence and shifting dipole orientations, potentially leading to innovative applications in molecular systems.

Metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) hydrolyze almost all β-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins, cephalosporins, and carbapenems; however, no effective inhibitors are currently clinically available. MBLs are classified into three subclasses: B1, B2, and B3. Although the amino acid sequences of MBLs are varied, their overall scaffold is well conserved.

During Wallerian degeneration, Schwann cells lose their characteristic of myelinating axons and shift into the state of developmental promyelinating cells. This recharacterized Schwann cell guides newly regrowing axons to their destination and remyelinates reinnervated axons. This Schwann cell dynamics during Wallerian degeneration is associated with oxidative events.

Interlayer excitons were observed at the heterojunctions in van der Waals heterostructures (vdW HSs). However, it is not known how the excitonic phenomena are affected by the stacking order. Here, we report twist-angle-dependent interlayer excitons in MoSe/WSe vdW HSs based on photoluminescence (PL) and vdW-corrected density functional theory calculations.

It is important to examine the nature of the relationships between roadway, environmental, and traffic factors and motor vehicle crashes, with the aim to improve the collective understanding of causal mechanisms involved in crashes and to better predict their occurrence. Statistical models of motor vehicle crashes are one path of inquiry often used to gain these initial insights. Recent efforts have focused on the estimation of negative binomial and Poisson regression models (and related deviants) due to their relatively good fit to crash data.

Crash prediction models are used for a variety of purposes including forecasting the expected future performance of various transportation system segments with similar traits. The influence of intersection features on safety have been examined extensively because intersections experience a relatively large proportion of motor vehicle conflicts and crashes compared to other segments in the transportation system. The effects of left-turn lanes at intersections in particular have seen mixed results in the literature.
