Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the levels of serum vitamin D, B12, and other minerals in patients with bilateral temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA) and their relationship with clinical findings.
  • Out of 90 patients analyzed, a significant majority had low levels of vitamin D (91.1%) and B12 (82.2%), with calcium and phosphorus also being low, and all patients showing unfavorable rheumatoid factor status.
  • Notable correlations were found between low vitamin D levels and pain at rest, while low B12 levels correlated with bone erosion; similarly, magnesium levels were linked to painful movements and bone growth in the joint.

Background: Osseo-integrated implants are increasingly being used to restore functional dentition; however, in the posterior region, implant placement can be problematic because of inadequate bone height. In this condition, maxillary sinus floor elevation surgery has become the treatment of choice. The presence of anatomic variations within the maxillary sinus such as Underwood's septa and thin Schneiderian membrane decreases the success of the sinus floor elevation.

Background: Petrotympanic fissure (PTF) is a fissure in the temporal bone that runs from the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) to the tympanic cavity (TC). In PTF, the discomallear ligament (DML) connects the malleus in the tympanic cavity and the articular disc and capsule of the temporomandibular joint. PTF with the DML is a possible cause of aural symptoms related to temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).

This work relates to the measurement of calcium, potassium, manganese and sodium levels in adult-human teeth from female and male patients and normal subjects. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique was used for the measurements. Pathological and non-pathological adult-human teeth samples were collected from one male human patient and one female human patient who attended the dental clinic.
