Plastic-degrading enzymes facilitate the biocatalytic recycling of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), a significant synthetic polymer, and substantial progress has been made in utilizing PET hydrolases for industrial applications. To fully exploit the potential of these enzymes, a deeper mechanistic understanding followed by targeted protein engineering is essential. Through advanced molecular dynamics simulations and free energy analysis methods, we elucidated the complete pathway from the initial binding of two PET hydrolases-the thermophilic leaf-branch compost cutinase (LCC) and polyester hydrolase 1 (PES-H1)-to an amorphous PET substrate, ultimately leading to a PET chain entering the active site in a hydrolyzable conformation.

There are some who point to the Common Rule, the regulation governing federally funded human subjects research, as a regulatory panacea for all types of big health data research. But how well does the Common Rule fit the regulatory needs of this type of research? This article suggests that harms that may arise from artificial intelligence and machine-learning technologies used in big health data research-and the increased likelihood that this research will affect public policy-mean it is time to consider whether the current human research regulations prohibit comprehensive, ethical review of big health data research that may result in group harm.

We find 1,511 independent differentially methylated loci associated with CRP. These CpG sites show correlation structures across chromosomes, and are primarily situated in euchromatin, depleted in CpG islands.

Applications of biometrics in various societal contexts have been increasing in the United States, and policy debates about potential restrictions and expansions for specific biometrics (such as facial recognition and DNA identification) have been intensifying. Empirical data about public perspectives on different types of biometrics can inform these debates. We surveyed 4048 adults to explore perspectives regarding experience and comfort with six types of biometrics; comfort providing biometrics in distinct scenarios; trust in social actors to use two types of biometrics (facial images and DNA) responsibly; acceptability of facial images in eight scenarios; and perceived effectiveness of facial images for five tasks.

With this information, the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) can better: (1) support advocacy and access efforts for genetic counseling services at both federal- and state-level; (2) promote effective billing and reimbursement for genetic counseling services provided via telemedicine; and (3) make decisions about how to best support genetic counselors. Yb- and Ce-based delafossites were recently identified as effective spin-1/2 antiferromagnets on the triangular lattice. Several Yb-based systems, such as NaYbO, NaYbS, and NaYbSe, exhibit no long-range order down to the lowest measured temperatures and therefore serve as putative candidates for the realization of a quantum spin liquid. However, their isostructural Ce-based counterpart KCeSexhibits magnetic order below= 400 mK, which was so far identified only in thermodynamic measurements.
