Signs of virilization, such as clitoromegaly, labio-scrotal fusion, and urogenital sinus may be observed in females with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) and other rare virilizing forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). This makes sex determination difficult, and multiple reconstructive surgeries in the postnatal period may be required. As 21-OHD is an autosomal recessive disease, the chance of any child being affected is one in four and so only one in eight will be an affected female.

Background: Many studies have been published on the relationship between different parameters with marginal bone loss around implants. The results of these studies vary, but some variables such as smoking or certain systemic conditions are more likely to predispose or exacerbate the resorption around implants. The aim of this study was to determine the rates of implants with radiographically detected marginal bone loss and to determine whether there is a relationship between the severity of destruction and certain risk factors like location of implant, restoration type, systemic condition, age, sex or smoking habits.

Objective: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic disease that can cause interstitial lung disease (ILD), a poor prognostic factor in SSc patients. Given the concerns over radiation exposure from repeated CT scans, there is a growing interest in exploring radiation-free imaging alternatives like MRI for ILD evaluation. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of three-dimensional zero echo time (3D-ZTE) MRI in assessing SSc-related ILD compared to the thin-slice chest CT.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on congenital hypothyroidism (CH) and aimed to analyze the clinical and genetic factors associated with it, specifically targeting genetic variants linked to thyroid tissue formation and hormone secretion.
  • A total of 61 Turkish patients from 45 families participated, with a variant detection rate of 37.7%; the most common mutations were found in the TPO gene, followed by TSHR, DUOX2, TG, and NKX2-1 genes.
  • The research identified rare new gene variations related to CH, suggesting that the current guidelines for genetic analysis are effective, and highlighting the potential prevalence of TSHR mutations in thyroid dysgenesis cases.

Background: This investigation compared the extent of external apical root resorption (EARR) in root-filled teeth (RFT) and their contralateral vital pulp teeth (VPT) counterparts during orthodontic treatment (OT) with clear aligner (CA) treatment or fixed appliance (FA) treatment.

Methods: Sixty-six patients with similar baseline American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) discrepancy index scores were divided into two groups: 37 patients (21 females, 16 males; mean age 17.45 ± 2.

This study investigates magnetic flux density (B) and radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) measurements on electric buses operating in Samsun, Turkey, focusing on two bus routes (called E1 and E4) during the morning and evening hours. Measurements were taken under diverse operational conditions, including acceleration, cruising, and braking, at locations of peak passenger density. Along the E1 route, the magnetic field intensity varied significantly based on the bus position, road slope, and passenger load, with notable increases during braking.

ETS domain transcription factor superfamily is highly conserved throughout metazoa and is involved in many aspects of development and tissue morphogenesis, and as such, the deregulation of ETS proteins is quite common in many diseases, including cancer. The PEA3 subfamily in particular has been extensively studied with respect to tumorigenesis and metastasis; however, they are also involved in the development of many tissues with branching morphogenesis, such as lung or kidney development. In this review, we aim to summarize findings from various studies on the role of Pea3 subfamily members in nervous system development in the embryo, as well as their functions in the adult neurons.

Air pollutants are associated with potentially toxic metals (PTMs) and natural and/or artificial radionuclides, which can pose a major threat to human and environmental health. Pollens can be utilized as a bioindicator to determine the level of air pollution in urban areas. In this study, the concentrations of PTMs and natural radionuclides in 35 airborne pollen samples of 22 species belonging to Pinaceae, Cupressaceae, Araucariaceae, Betulaceae, Salicaceae, and Oleaceae families grown in different urban areas in Turkey were determined using an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

Purpose: 17α Hydroxylase/17,20 lyase deficiency (17OHD) is a rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, typically diagnosed in late adolescence with symptoms of pubertal delay and hypertension. This study aimed to determine the clinical and laboratory characteristics of 17OHD cases and gather data on disease management.

Methods: Data from 97 nationwide cases were analyzed using the CEDD-NET web system.

The escalating rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) coupled with a declining arsenal of new antibiotics is imposing serious threats to global public health. A pervasive aspect of many acquired AMR infections is that the pathogenic microorganisms exist as biofilms, which are equipped with superior survival strategies. In addition, persistent and recalcitrant infections are seeded with bacterial persister cells at infection sites.

This study examined the influence of growth temperature and dopant concentration on the properties of Gd- and Ni-doped zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs). ZnO seed layers were deposited on glass substrates using a sol-gel and dip-coating approach. Gd- and Ni-doped ZnO NRs were hydrothermally grown on the seed layers at different temperatures such as 75, 90, and 105°C for a constant growth time of 5 h.

The frequent use of anti-inflammatory drugs and the side effects of existing drugs keep the need for new compounds constant. For this purpose, flurbiprofen and ibuprofen-like compounds, which are frequently used anti-inflammatory compounds in this study, were synthesized and their structures were elucidated. Like ibuprofen and flurbiprofen, the compounds contain a residue of phenylacetic acid.

The average levels of physical activity in children are below the ideal, which may influence children's health and motor competence levels. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the impact of a 10-week play-based after-school program on 50 twelve-year-old students' anthropometric characteristics (body height and body weight), coordinative abilities (flamingo balance test and T-test agility), and physical fitness (sit and reach, 20-m sprint test, SLJ, CMJ, and handgrip). After baseline assessments, the students were randomly divided into two groups: one participating in a play-based after-school program (experimental group) and the other attending regular PE classes (control group).

Background: Growth factors embedded in the extracellular matrix of the dentin play an important role in the migration, proliferation, and differentiation of dental pulp stem cells in regenerative endodontics. In regenerative endodontic treatments, the type of irrigation solution used is crucial for the release of growth factors (GFs) from the dentin matrix. This study evaluated the effectiveness of different irrigant activation techniques (IAT) using two different chelating agents, 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and 9% etidronic acid (HEDP), in terms of their GF release.

Elk-1 is a member of the ETS domain transcription factor superfamily that is phosphorylated upon mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway activation, which in turn regulated its interaction with partner protein serum response factor (SRF), leading to formation of a ternary complex with DNA. It has previously been reported that Elk-1 interacts with a mitotic kinase Aurora-A, although the mechanisms or the relevance of this interaction was unclear. Elk-1 was also reported to be phosphorylated by CDK5 on Thr417 residue.

The strategy for controlling the existence of radionuclides in drinking water depends upon an individual dose criterion (IDC) of 0.1 mSv/y, which represents a very low level of risk that is not expected to cause any identified adverse health effects. Radon gas, considered a carcinogenic radionuclide, can dissolve and accumulate in drinking water.
