Colouterine fistula as a sequela of diverticulitis is an extremely rare complication due to the extraordinarily thick layer of myometrium of the uterus. Because of this, an aggressive clinical evaluation is required to rule out other potential causes of fistula formation such as malignancy. However, imaging and laboratory techniques may be inconclusive, and surgery with pathologic analysis may be required for a definitive diagnosis.

The effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on placental function is not well understood. Analysis of placentas from women who tested positive at delivery showed SARS-CoV-2 genomic and subgenomic RNA in 22 out of 52 placentas. Placentas from two mothers with symptomatic COVID-19 whose pregnancies resulted in adverse outcomes for the fetuses contained high levels of viral Alpha variant RNA.

BACKGROUND Platypnea orthodeoxia syndrome (POS) presents with positional dyspnea and hypoxemia defined as arterial desaturation of at least 5% or a drop in PaO2 of at least 4 mmHg. Causes of POS include a variety of cardiopulmonary etiologies and has been reported in patients recovering from severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Background: Few papers discuss the pragmatics of conducting large, cluster randomized clinical trials. Here we describe the sequential steps taken to develop methods to implement the Randomized Evaluation of Sedation Titration for Respiratory Failure (RESTORE) trial that tested the effect of a nurse-implemented, goal-directed, comfort algorithm on clinical outcomes in pediatric patients with acute respiratory failure.

Methods: After development in a single institution, the RESTORE intervention was pilot-tested in two pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) to evaluate safety and feasibility.

Test disk electrodes were fabricated from carbon nanotubes (CNT) using the Carbon Nanotube Templated Microfabrication (CNT-M) technique. The CNT-M process uses patterned growth of carbon nanotube forests from surfaces to form complex patterns, enabling electrode sizing and shaping. The additional carbon infiltration process stabilizes these structures for further processing and handling.

Microelectrode arrays of carbon nanotube (CNT)/carbon composite posts with high aspect ratio and millimeter-length were fabricated using carbon-nanotube-templated microfabrication with a sacrificial "hedge". The high aspect ratio, mechanical robustness, and electrical conductivity of these electrodes make them a potential candidate for next-generation neural interfacing. Electrochemical measurements were also demonstrated using an individual CNT post microelectrode with a diameter of 25 μm and a length of 1 mm to perform cyclic voltammetry on both methyl viologen and dopamine in a phosphate-buffered saline solution.

Methods: Multiple linear regressions were performed to predict state-level trauma-related mortality among adults and the elderly across 50 US states in 2010. The number of trauma centers per capita in each state and the percentage of each state's population living within 45-min of a trauma center served as the key independent variables and injury-related mortality served as the dependent variable.
