Background: Understanding service user preferences is key to effective health care decision making and efficient resource allocation. It is of particular importance in the management of high-risk patients in whom predictive genetic testing can alter health outcomes.

Purpose: This review aims to identify the relative importance and willingness to pay for attributes of genetic testing in hereditary cancer syndromes.

Objective: Tests capable of accurate prediction of spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) are crucial to inform clinical decisions to prevent neonatal deaths and reduce the risk of morbidity in surviving infants. A systematic literature review and meta-analysis were performed to assess the utility of the quantitative fetal fibronectin (fFN) test to predict sPTB at different test concentration thresholds.

Methods: Literature searches were conducted in MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Library in May 2022.

In current contexts of education, educators are tasked with using data, most often without any critical preparation to do so. In this way, data are presented as objective measures of student progress and participation in school without consideration of the systemic and structural influences on that progress and participation. This article reports on a proposed framework for preparing educators to engage in critical data-driven decision making as an engine of disrupting classroom and school-based systemic inequity through data use.

Purpose: Patients with neurofibromatosis type-1 (NF-1) and associated plexiform neurofibromas (PNs) often have a high burden of illness owing to debilitating symptoms of these tumors and limited management options. To investigate this complex disease, a systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted on the epidemiology of pediatric NF-1 and associated PNs, the burden of illness, and outcomes of surgical resection of these tumors.

Methods: Searches of MEDLINE and Embase (from database inception to October 2019) and conference proceedings (2017-2019) were performed to identify relevant studies.

Article Synopsis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune condition leading to joint inflammation, with severe cases often managed using biological drugs; however, their effectiveness can decrease due to the formation of anti-drug antibodies.
  • Monitoring treatment response typically relies on clinical assessments or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays to measure both drug levels and antibody presence, guiding necessary treatment adjustments.
  • Systematic reviews were undertaken to evaluate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays in tracking responses to various tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitors among patients with differing treatment responses, using comprehensive database searches up to November 2018.

Adjuvant-pulsed peptide vaccines hold great promise for the prevention and treatment of different diseases including cancer. However, it has been difficult to maximize vaccine efficacy due to numerous obstacles including the unfavorable tolerability profile of adjuvants, instability of peptide antigens, limited cellular uptake, and fast diffusion from the injection site, as well as systemic adverse effects. Here we describe a robust lipidation approach for effective nanoparticle co-delivery of low-molecular weight immunomodulators (TLR7/8 agonists) and peptides (SIINFEKL) with a potent prophylactic effect.

Background: Preterm birth may result in short- and long-term health problems for the child. Accurate diagnoses of preterm births could prevent unnecessary (or ensure appropriate) admissions into hospitals or transfers to specialist units.

Objectives: The purpose of this report is to assess the test accuracy, clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the diagnostic tests PartoSure™ (Parsagen Diagnostics Inc.

One hundred and two patients who presented with rheumatoid disease within the first year of onset were studied prospectively every four months for a mean 4.5 years to assess the incidence of extra-articular features. The features that seemed to be common in the early stages included hand-muscle wasting, carpal tunnel syndrome, lymphadenopathy, non-specific ankle swelling, and rheumatoid nodules, and to a lesser extent hepatomegaly, being underweight, conjunctivitis, skin transparency, and a palpable thyroid gland.

Fifty-six patients with frozen shoulder have had their personality profiles investigated by means of the Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire. Females showed significantly increased somatic anxiety compared with controls. It is suggested that this may be important both to aetiology and treatment.
