A novel 40 kDa protein has been detected in native thin filaments from catch muscles of the mussel Crenomytilus grayanus. In this study, using skeletal muscle actin and S-1, we investigated the effects of the mussel 40-kDa actin-binding protein on the acto · S-1 ATPase activity. On increasing the 40-kDa actin-binding protein (CaP-40) concentration, the actin-activated ATPase activity decreased, and was inhibited 80% at a CaP-40 to actin ratio of 0.

A novel 40 kDa protein was detected in native thin filaments from catch muscles of the mussel Crenomytilus grayanus. The MALDY-TOF analysis of the protein showed a 40% homology with the calponin-like protein from the muscle of Mytilus galloprovincialis (45 kDa), which has a 36% homology with smooth muscle calponin from chicken gizzard (34 kDa). The amount of the calponin-like protein in thin filaments depends on isolation conditions and varies from the complete absence to the presence in amounts comparable with that of tropomyosin.

On the basis of analysis of 450 epileptic cases the authors have established positive correlations between the suspected ethological factors (endogenic predisposition in the form of epileptoid personality characteristics in relatives, alcoholism in parents, birth-related traumas, the history of intracranial infections at the early stages of ontogenesis) and the main structural dynamic manifestations of the disease in delayed periods. The above factors have been frequently associated with an unfavourable course of the disease, largely characterized by catatonic disturbances, and have been less common in patients with torpid and mixed patterns of the disease. The form of the psychosis course (transitory, paroxysmal and chronic) is poorly correlated with epilepsy progression.

A total of 135 patients with primary and secondary progressive muscular dystrophies have been studied rheovasographically. On the basis of the findings obtained the authors have identified the main types and peculiarities of peripheral circulation disorders and described the principal pathogenetic mechanisms of their development. The clinical and physiological correlations are presented.

The paper is concerned with a description of the results of polyrheovasographical studies in 102 patients with late stages of vibrational disease. The authors distinguished 3 variants of vascular disturbances: hypertonic, hypotonic, dystonic. The cold test detected in most of the patients changes of the vascular reactivity in the form of increased, decreased and--less frequently--inverse reactions to this stimula.

The authors studied the bioelectroactivity, brain hemodynamics and the state of the nervous-muscular system in 97 patients in the remote period of the vibrational disease. It was established that despite the absence of a contact with vibration most of the patients demonstrated slight general brain changes of an electroactivity in the form of irritation, a disturbance of cerebral hemodynamics. This was expressed in a decrease of blood repletion, an intrahemispheric asymmetry of the blood flux.

In 124 patients with different forms of chronic neurotoxoplasmosis there was an increased tone of brain vessels without signs of a drop in the pulse blood repletion in the arteries of carotid and vertebro-basillar basins. There was also a decrease of the pulse blood repletion in the extremities (mainly in the lower) with a normal or insigficant increase of the tone in the vascular wall. A normalization of the rheographic curves in pharmacological tests and during treatment indicate a functional character of these changes in most of the cases.
