Mapping urban well-being with Quality Of Life Index (QOLI) at the fine-scale of grid data.

Accessibility of transport infrastructure, commercial amenities, recreational facilities, and green spaces is widely recognised as crucial to the well-being of urban residents. However, these features are often unevenly distributed across the geographical boundaries of a city, leading to disparities in the local quality of life. This study focuses on the city of Warsaw, Poland, and uses the aforementioned characteristics and the framework of the '15-min city' concept to construct a grid-level urban Quality of Life Index (QOLI) that facilitates comparisons between the city's districts and local neighbourhoods.

Endovascular carotid revascularization under open-chest extracorporeal circulation combined with cardiac surgery in unstable patients at increased risk of carotid-related stroke: SIMultaneous urgent cardiac surgery and MicroNet-covered stent carotid revascularization in extreme-risk patients-SIMGUARD Study.

Background: In patients at urgent need for cardiac surgery coexisting with increased-stroke-risk carotid stenosis, any staged intervention increases the risk of complications from the primarily unaddressed pathology. In this challenging cohort, we assessed safety and feasibility of endovascular carotid revascularization under open-chest extracorporeal circulation (ECC) combined with cardiac surgery (hybrid-room true simultaneous treatment).

Methods: Per-protocol (PP), after general anesthesia induction, chest-opening and ECC stand-by installation, carotid stenting (CAS) was performed (femoral/radial or direct carotid access) with ad-hoc/on-hand switch to ECC cardiac surgery.

Governance Innovations for forest ecosystem service provision - Insights from an EU-wide survey.

This paper analyses the occurrence of governance innovations for forest ecosystem service (FES) provision in the forestry sector in Europe and the factors that influence innovation development. Based on a European-wide online survey, public and private forest owners and managers representing different property sizes indicate what type of governance innovation activities they engage in, and why. To investigate forestry innovations as systems, the analysis focuses on biophysical, social and technical factors influencing innovation development.

Drug interactions are a growing problem in the practice of otolaryngology. The use of drugs in patients treated with polypharmacy generates the risk of adverse drug interactions which requires specialized knowledge and active prevention. The most common interactions encountered by ENT physicians are identified on the basis of the analysis of medical order sheets and discussed in the article.

Angel(®) Catheter use for pulmonary embolism prophylaxis in a polytrauma patient.

Objective: To describe the successful, clinical use of the Angel(®) Catheter, a device used for the prevention of pulmonary embolism (PE) and central venous access in a critically ill, multi-trauma patient.

Methods: Authors report the case of a 35-year-old man, in critical condition with multiple trauma injuries sustained from a fall, who was admitted to the Department of Rescue Medicine and Multiorgan Trauma in Krakow, Poland.

Results: Anticoagulation was interrupted due to the risk of intraoperative bleeding.

[The value of computer tomography in the diagnosis of encephalomalacic foci].

The authors report a comparative analysis of the results of angiographic investigations and computer tomography in patients with clinical manifestations of stroke. Attention is called to the accuracy of the information obtained in computer tomography with regard to the extent of focal encephalomalacia and stage of evolution. Signs are described making possible differentiation between vasogenic lesions and other pathological processes of identical or similar features in computer tomography.
