Late adolescences, as a developmentally challenging transitional period between childhood and adulthood, provides a number of pressures that impact well-being of youth. Among approaches for facilitating well-being, music is reported to be one of the most effective ones, which was especially proven during Covid-19 pandemic. Given the significance of music and music listening in late adolescence, our study sought to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and music listening among university students ( = 603; female = 356, male = 247) with a focus on the social, intrapersonal, and sociocultural context of music listening.

The association of hearing problems with social network strength and depressive symptoms: the cardiovascular health study.

Background: research on the association between hearing impairment and psychosocial outcomes is not only limited but also yielded mixed results.

Methods: we investigated associations between annual self-reports of hearing problems, depressive symptoms and social network strength among 5,888 adults from the Cardiovascular Health Study over a period of 9 years. Social network strength and depressive symptoms were defined using the Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS), and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D).

The Burnout Dyad: A Collaborative Approach for Including Patients in a Model of Provider Burnout.

Both patients and providers in the United States (US) suffer from burnout, which can impact the clinical relationship and quality of care. Among providers, burnout is a state of exhaustion including heightened depersonalization; among patients, burnout can negatively affect clinical outcomes. More than half of clinical providers in the United States suffer from burnout; less is known about the magnitude and prevalence among patients.

Improving Health-Related Quality of Life of Patients With an Ostomy Using a Novel Digital Wearable Device: Protocol for a Pilot Study.

Background: Ostomy surgeries involving the placement of an ostomy bag (eg, colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy, etc) have been shown to have a negative impact on health-related quality of life. To date, no studies have been conducted examining what impact, if any, wearable biosensors have on the health-related quality of life of ostomy patients.

Objective: In the present study, we plan to assess the quality of life of ostomy patients using the Ostom-i alert sensor, a portable, wearable, Bluetooth-linked biosensor that facilitates easier ostomy bag output measurements.

The impact of neuropathic pain and other comorbidities on the quality of life in patients with diabetes.

Background: Diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common complications of diabetes and can exist with or without neuropathic pain. We were interested in how neuropathic pain impairs the quality of life in diabetic patients and what is the role of comorbidities in this condition.

Methods: The study included 80 patients with painful DPN (group "P") and 80 patients with DPN, but without neuropathic pain (group "D").

Aortic coarctation associated with aortic valve stenosis and mitral regurgitation in an adult patient: a two-stage approach using a large-diameter stent graft.

We report a case of a staged surgical and endovascular management in a 62-year-old woman with aortic coarctation associated with aortic valve stenosis and mitral regurgitation. The patient was admitted for severe aortic valve stenosis and mitral valve incompetence. During hospitalization and preoperative imaging, a previously undiagnosed aortic coarctation was discovered.

Familial antiphospholipid syndrome presenting as bivessel arterial occlusion in a 17-year-old girl.

This article presents a case of a 17-year-old girl with primary antiphospholipid syndrome developing subacute signs of hand and leg ischaemia caused by radiologically verified radial and popliteal artery occlusion. She is successfully treated with a thrombolytic agent (alteplase) and recovers completely. Her laboratory results came positive for all three subtypes of antiphospholipid antibodies.

Artificial inoculation-perspectives in tailings phytostabilization.

Intensive mining and processing activities worldwide resulted in the generation of huge amounts of waste (tailings), generally characterized as toxic, radioactive, and/or hazardous. The exposure potential and, hence, the risk posed by such wastes is enhanced by a general lack of vegetation. Phytostabilization has proven to be efficient in reducing this risk.
