Evaluation of inhibitory activity, purification and X-ray crystallography of Alpha-Amylase inhibitor from Phaseolus vulgaris cultivars of Uttarakhand, India.

The present work is based on analysis of inhibitory activity of alpha-amylase inhibitor in selected cultivars of Phaseolus vulgaris of Uttarakhand. Fifteen samples were assessed for inhibitory activity of alpha-amylase inhibitor. Significant variations were found in different cultivars.

Advancement in nanotechnology has improved ways for large-scale production and characterization of nanoparticles of physiologically important metals. The current study explores the impact of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) and Chitosan-Zinc oxide nano-bioformulation (CH-ZnO) in tissue culture raised callus of . Results indicated augmented biomass in CH-ZnO treated callus, while a reduced biomass was observed in ZnO-NP treated callus, at all the concentrations tested.

A systematic review on the efficacy and safety of low molecular weight heparin as an anticancer therapeutic in preclinical animal models.

Objective: The therapeutic effects of low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) may extend past thrombosis prevention, with preclinical evidence demonstrating anti-metastatic properties. Clinical evidence on the topic, however, remains controversial. A systematic review of preclinical evidence may help elucidate reasons for this contradictory evidence.

Evaluating Patients' Perception of the Risk of Acute Care Visits During Systemic Therapy for Cancer.

Purpose: Unplanned emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations are common during systemic cancer therapy. To determine how patients with cancer trade off treatment benefit with risk of experiencing an ED visit or hospitalization when deciding about systemic therapy, we undertook a discrete choice experiment.

Materials And Methods: Patients with breast, colorectal, or head and neck cancer contemplating, receiving, or having previously received systemic therapy were presented with 10 choice tasks (5 in the curative and 5 in the palliative setting) that varied on 3 attributes: benefit, risk of ED visit, and risk of hospitalization.

Patterns, perceptions and their association with changes in alcohol consumption in cancer survivors.

Continued consumption of alcohol after a cancer diagnosis is associated with poorer outcomes. We evaluated whether perceptions of the effects of continued alcohol use and receiving information on moderating alcohol reduced alcohol consumption in adult cancer survivors. A total of 509 cancer survivors were cross-sectionally surveyed at follow-up for their alcohol use before and after cancer diagnosis and perceptions of continued drinking.

The objective of this observational study was to assess the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) computerized adaptive testing (CAT) for fatigue and sleep-disturbance items compared with legacy measures in routine ambulatory cancer care.

Methods: Patients who attended outpatient clinics at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center completed PROMIS CAT item banks and legacy measures (the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy [FACIT]-Fatigue scale and the Insomnia Severity Index [ISI]) using tablet computers during clinic visits.

Eleusine coracana (finger millet) is a stress-hardy but under-utilized cereal crop that possesses an efficient antioxidant defense system. The plant is capable of enduring long durations of water deficit stress. Experiments were conducted to clone a potent stress responsive isoform of ascorbate peroxidase and validate its role under drought stress.

Responses to drought induced oxidative stress in five finger millet varieties differing in their geographical distribution.

The study presents the impact of drought stress on five finger millet varieties (PR202, VL146, VL315, PES400 and VR708), representing contrasting areas of Indian sub-continent. Drought stress induced increase in the activity of superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase was higher in PR202 and VL315, while the activity was lower in the varieties PES400 and VR708. Ascorbate peroxidase : superoxide dismutase ratio, which is a crucial factor in alleviating drought stress, was higher in varieties PR202 and VL315, whilst the varieties PES400 and VR708 exhibited a lower ratio under stress.
