In this contribution to the 50th Anniversary Special Issue, the authors consider how global climate change and environmental sustainability have been addressed in the American Journal of Community Psychology (AJCP) over the last five decades. As we are increasingly exceeding critical planetary boundaries (global climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, etc.) with disastrous impacts on human well-being-especially for peoples already marginalized-it is timely to consider the treatment of environmental issues in the history of the AJCP and in community psychology more broadly.

There is growing recognition that often well-intended climate action solutions perpetuate and exacerbate manifestations of colonialism and racism due to the lack of equity and justice considerations in designing and implementing these solutions. There is limited research exploring why the integration of these considerations are lacking in municipal climate action planning. This exploratory descriptive qualitative study explored how municipal actors perceive and understand equity and justice in municipal climate action planning as a step toward addressing this issue.

Purpose: The purpose of this work was to explore two novel operation modalities of the rotating gamma systems (RGS) that could expand its clinical application to lesions in close proximity to critical organs at risk (OAR).

Methods: The approach taken in this study consists of two components. First, a Geant4-based Monte Carlo (MC) simulation toolkit is used to model the dosimetric properties of the RGS Vertex 360™ for the normal, intensity modulated radiosurgery (IMRS), and speed modulated radiosurgery (SMRS) operation modalities.

Background And Purpose: Radiosurgery is an increasingly popular treatment option especially for deep eloquent intracerebral cavernomas that are often too risky for surgical removal, but their re-bleed carries significant risk for persisting neurological deficit. Gamma-radiation based radiosurgery has been being available since 2007 in Hungary in Debrecen. Our aim is to summarize our experience accumulated during the first five years of treatment and to compare it to the international experience.

The therapeutic modalities available for the conservative management of chronic cervical and lumbar pain include underwater traction, the usefulness of which is not universally acknowledged. No reports have been published on clinical trials evaluating underwater traction. Recent developments in neurochemistry research on the post mortem human brain require a detailed understanding of the post mortem changes in the human brain, including the correlation between time related temperature changes and alterations in biochemical parameters. As an initial step towards our deeper insight into the intricate relationships between post mortem time, temperature and neurochemical processes, in the present study we set out to monitor continuously temperature changes in the post mortem human brain in eight cadavers for a period of up to 24 h after death under 'standard' clinical conditions at a neurosurgery clinic. A main objective of the study was to find a simple and reliable mathematical formula, requiring only time and an easily obtainable body temperature measurement parameter, with the help of which the superficial and deep brain temperatures can be obtained without invasive interactions.

The authors describe the case of a fifteen-year-old girl with progressive paraparesis of the lower limbs that was caused by an intraspinal extradural dorsal arachnoid cyst at the level of Th 3-6. Diagnosis was established with MRI and MRI myelography. The latter revealed the CSF-like content of the cyst.

Periprosthetic bone loss after total joint arthroplasty is a major clinical problem resulting in aseptic loosening of the implant. Among many cell types, osteoblasts play a crucial role in the development of peri-implant osteolysis. In this study, we tested the effects of calcitriol (1alpha,25-dihydroxy-vitamin-D3) and the bisphosphonate pamidronate on titanium-particle- and TNF-alpha-induced release of interleukin-6 and suppression of osteoblast-specific gene expressions in bone-marrow-derived stromal cells with an osteoblastic phenotype.

Particulate wear debris generated mechanically from prosthetic materials is phagocytosed by a variety of cell types within the periprosthetic space including osteoblasts, which cells with an altered function may contribute to periprosthetic osteolysis. Exposure of osteoblast-like osteosarcoma cells or bone marrow-derived primary osteoblasts to either metallic or polymeric particles of phagocytosable sizes resulted in a marked decrease in the steady-state messenger RNA (mRNA) levels of procollagen alpha1[I] and procollagen alpha1[III]. In contrast, no significant effect was observed for the osteoblast-specific genes, such as osteonectin and osteocalcin (OC).

To establish an optimal method for analysis of the collagen structures from unstained tissue sections, a computerized image analysis system using a charge coupled device camera coupled to a polarizing light microscope was used. Retardation values of birefringence, which are proportional to the content and fibril orientation of collagen in the extracellular matrix of articular cartilage, were determined from sections prepared in different ways. In the superficial zone of articular cartilage, the highest retardation values were recorded from sections cut parallel to the so-called split lines indicating the anisotropic arrangement of collagen.

Authors report about a seemingly increase of the number of pediatric brain tumors in Borsod county region North-East Hungary. In a retrospective study they conclude, that this phenomenon may to a great extent be artificial, that is, it may reflect the improvement of diagnostic possibilities, above all the new imaging modalities. At their Institution the pattern of brain tumors is similar to that reported in the literature.
