Background: The study investigates how varying germination times affect the nutritional, thermal, and pasting properties of red rice. Germination was conducted over 32 h, with aliquots collected every 2 h starting from 18 h for property evaluation.

Results: At all evaluated germination times, the red rice samples exhibited low to intermediate amylose levels, while resistant starch content remained relatively constant (approximately 15-20%).

The association between COVID-19 and autoimmune diseases has gained increasing recognition, yet the specific targets of SARS-CoV-2-induced IgG are currently in focus for several studies. This study aims to explore the proteomic targets of these antibodies and their potential role in autoimmunity. We utilised a human proteome microarray encompassing 23 736 unique proteins, including isoform variants and fragments, as catalogued by the Human Protein Atlas.

Unlabelled: Diabetic arthritis (DA) is a microvascular complication associated with diabetes mellitus (DM), necessitating the exploration of innovative therapeutic approaches. The Amazon biome, rich in bioactive compounds, offers potential treatments; notably, Bixa orellana, which contains tocotrienol and geranylgeraniol, exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, particularly when formulated as a nanodispersion.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the pharmacological effects of an injectable nanodispersion of Bixa orellana, termed Chronic-in®, in diabetic Wistar rats.

Background: Gliomas, particularly glioblastomas, are highly aggressive cancers with rapid proliferation and poor prognosis. Current treatments have limited efficacy, highlighting the need for new therapeutic strategies. Eribulin mesylate, a synthetic macrocyclic ketone, has shown potential as an anticancer agent in several malignancies.

The principles of frontal affinity chromatography were used to determine the sorption constants and sorption capacities of benzophenone on immobilized humic acid. Poly(glycidyl-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) monoliths were constructed inside microbore capillaries (12 cm long × 1.016 mm internal diameter) and further aminated with ethylenediamine.

Brazilian fruit trees are vital for food security, and their pollination is crucial. This study aimed to build a database of edible fruit trees and their pollinators in Brazil, integrating ethnobotanical and pollination ecology research. The database was built from an integrative review of ethnobotanical records of edible fruit plants and pollination biology research in Brazil.

Celtic knots, an ancient art form often linked to Celtic heritage, have been used historically in the decoration of monuments and manuscripts, often symbolizing the notions of eternity and interconnectedness. This paper introduces the framework CelticGraph designed for illustrating graphs in the style of Celtic knots and links. The process of creating these drawings raises interesting combinatorial concepts in the theory of circuits in planar graphs.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a prevalent condition that can impact the quality of life of physically active women. This study aimed to evaluate knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to UI among women who exercise in gyms.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out from March to July 2022, in gyms located in the city of Parnaíba, in northeastern Brazil with physically active women.

Several drug release studies are continuously carried out to minimize pharmacological limitations, such as insolubility in water and gastrointestinal irritability. This study focused on the development of gels for the administration of amphotericin-B (AmB) for the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Two gels were prepared from copolymers (polyglycerol and ε-caprolactone) incorporated with AmB.

This study reports new occurrences of Syngamidae nematodes, specifically Cyathostoma (Cyathostoma) phenisci, in seabirds stranded along the northeastern coast of Brazil. Through systematic monitoring efforts of seabird strandings along the coast of Sergipe (northeastern Brazil), deceased specimens were subjected to post-mortem analyses. During necropsies, nematodes were identified in the tracheae of three specimens (Calonectris borealis, Puffinus puffinus, and Ardenna gravis), indicating respiratory infections.

The corn leafhopper, Dalbulus maidis (DeLong & Wolcott) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), is a key pest of maize crops in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. In addition to direct damage, its major impact is related to its action as insect vector of pathogens related to corn stunting complex (CSC). CSC diseases are currently the most important and cause severe crop losses in Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, and the southern United States, and outbreaks have been more oftenly reported.

Objective: The physiological changes inherent to the climacteric period can trigger or aggravate overweight/obesity, among several other health disorders. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of time-restricted eating (TRE) on body composition and cardiometabolic parameters in climacteric women with obesity submitted to caloric restriction (CR) through a hypocaloric diet.

Methods: We conducted an analysis of a clinical trial in a pre-post design that included adult climacteric women with obesity.

The family Vespidae represents a key group to understand the evolutionary trajectory of social behavior in insects, as these wasps display the entire spectrum of social behaviors, from solitary to highly eusocial. The evolution of eusociality likely depended on a coordinated communication system, with chemical communication being suggested as the most commonly used among social insects. Chemical communication provides information about colony identity and an individual's identity, sex and caste, and can help resolve intracolonial conflicts.

This study investigates the role of secondary metabolites in the phytoremediation of cadmium-contaminated water using Pontederia parviflora and Salvinia auriculata. Unlike previous studies, which primarily focus on the physical removal of heavy metals by plants, our research explores the biochemical interactions between these plants secondary metabolites and cadmium ions. We employed liquid chromatography-diode array detector-mass spectrometry (LC-DAD-MS) to analyze the chemical composition of the plant extracts and assessed the impact of these metabolites on cadmium accumulation and removal efficiency.

The high productivity of Eucalyptus spp. forest plantations is mainly due to advances in silvicultural techniques and genetic improvement associated with the potential that many species of the genus have for vegetative propagation. However, long reproduction cycles for forest species pose significant challenges for genetic progress via traditional breeding programs.

The early sequence of respiratory failure events after the onset of sepsis is still unknown. We hypothesize that the lung should signal through circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) when it is affected by a systemic inflammatory response. Blood samples were obtained from septic patients with (n = 5) and without acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (n = 13) at 24 h of intensive care unit admission and 3 days later at Sírio-Libanês Hospital.

Aim: The objective of the present study was to close multiple diastemas. This presents a significant challenge for clinicians, given the esthetic considerations and the need for precise replication of various types of tooth tissue. While direct composite resin layering is a demanding technique, it proves to be a viable approach for reshaping tooth anatomy.

The composition of the gut microbiota in animals can be influenced by a variety of intrinsic and extrinsic factors in the host, such as diet, physiological state, and genetics. This study aimed to compare the structural composition of the gut microbiota of Apis mellifera bees from two distinct Brazilian biomes, the Atlantic Forest and the Caatinga, using high throughput 16 S rRNA sequencing. We identified a core microbiota composed of seven genera present in all samples: Lactobacillus, Commensalibacter, Rhizobiaceae, Snodgrassella, Gilliamella, Orbaceae and Bifidobacterium.
