We applied a classifier method to predict palladium catalysts for the formation of nonalternating polyketones via the copolymerization of CO and ethylene; current examples are limited to using phosphine sulfonate and diphosphazane monoxide supporting ligands. With the reported workflow, we discovered two new classes of palladium complexes capable of achieving the synthesis of nonalternating polyketones with a lower CO content than those made by known palladium catalysts. Our results show that we doubled the number of classes of palladium compounds that can catalyze the formation of this type of polymer.

Bioabsorbable textile scaffolds are promising for bone tissue engineering applications. Their tuneable, porous, fibre based architecture resembles that of native extracellular matrix, and they can sustain tissue growth while being gradually absorbed in the body. We report the application of organoiridium complexes as catalytic agents for the detoxification of biogenic reactive aldehyde species (RASP), which are implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. We show that Ir complexes functionalized with phosphonium cations localize selectively in the mitochondria and have better cellular retention compared to that of their parent Ir species. In a cell model for Parkinsonism, the mitochondria-targeted iridium catalysts exhibited superior cell protecting abilities and longer-lasting effects (up to 6 d) than conventional RASP scavengers, which failed to be effective beyond 24 h.

Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the cost and clinical impact of repeating BioFire FilmArray gastrointestinal (GI) and respiratory (RP) panel assays with 3 vs 4 pathogen targets positive.

Method: We analyzed 12,027 GI and RP panels to evaluate our retesting policy, which retested panels with 3 or more detected pathogens (3-pathogen protocol) compared with the manufacturer's 4-pathogen (4-pathogen protocol) recommendation. We compared the retesting results, calculated the cost implications, and reviewed the clinical impact on antibiotic prescriptions and patient outcomes.

Introduction: The Longan fruit tree of the Vietnam Mekong Delta is grown in raised beds to improve water drainage during the rainy season and can live as long as 100 years.

Objective: This research explores the extent to which the soil microorganisms as well as soil physical and chemical properties of these raised beds degrade over a period of 60 years under traditional management practices.

In this study, we report rapid activation of a solution-processed aluminum oxide gate dielectric film to reduce its processing time under ambient atmosphere. Aluminum precursor films were exposed to a high energy light-pulse and completely converted into dielectric films within 30 seconds (450 pulses). The aluminum oxide gate dielectric film irradiated using intense pulsed light with 450 pulses exhibits a smooth surface and a leakage current density of less than 10 A cm at 2 MV cm.
