Administration of AAV-based gene therapies into the intra-cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compartments via routes such as lumbar puncture (LP) has been implemented as an alternative to intravenous dosing to target the CNS regions. This route enables lower doses, decreases systemic toxicity, and circumvents intravascular pre-existing anti-AAV antibodies. In this study, AAV9-GFP vectors were administered via LP to juvenile cynomolgus macaques with and without pre-existing serum anti-AAV9 antibodies at a 5.

Introduction: Views of aging have been linked with many important outcomes in older adults. Subjective cognition, or one's perception of their cognitive functioning, may be a valuable indicator of cognitive changes as individuals age, but is known to be impacted by a variety of factors. The aim of this systematic review was to synthesize the evidence on relationships between views of aging and subjective cognition, including whether and how these relationships may differ based on age.

Over 75% of patients with ovarian cancer present with late-stage disease, often accompanied by extensive metastasis. The metastatic cascade is driven by a sub-population of transcriptionally plastic cells known as "leader cells" (LCs), which play a critical role in collective invasion yet remain poorly understood. LCs are marked by the expression of keratin-14 (KRT14), which determines their migratory and invasive capacity in ovarian cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the survival benefits of automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) compared to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), focusing on the effects of using icodextrin, with 148 patients categorized into four groups based on their treatment type over one year.
  • - Results indicated that the use of icodextrin in CAPD (CAPD+ET) had better patient survival rates than APD without icodextrin (APD-ET), although the differences were not statistically significant, particularly among non-diabetic patients.
  • - The findings suggest that APD without icodextrin may lead to poorer patient and technique survival due to challenges in volume control, particularly highlighted by a higher edema index

Objective: Expanded potential stem cells (EPSCs) are stem cells that can differentiate into embryonic and extraembryonic lineages, including extraembryonic endoderm and trophoblast lineages. Therefore, EPSCs have great potential in advancing regenerative medicine, elucidating disease mechanisms, and exploring early embryonic development. However, the generation and characterization of EPSCs in pigs have not been thoroughly explored.

The receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is the main target of neutralizing antibodies. Although they are infrequently elicited during infection or vaccination, antibodies that bind to the conformation-specific cryptic face of the RBD display remarkable breadth of binding and neutralization across . Here, we employed the immunofocusing technique PMD (protect, modify, deprotect) to create RBD immunogens (PMD-RBD) specifically designed to focus the antibody response toward the cryptic-face epitope recognized by the broadly neutralizing antibody S2X259.

The purpose of this technical report is to describe a modified tunnel surgical approach and connective tissue graft (CTG) stabilization technique for the treatment of gingival recessions with interproximal clinical attachment loss (ICAL). The partial-full-thickness (PFT) tunnel technique utilizes multiple vestibular incisions to facilitate creation of a split-mucoperiosteal tunnel that enhances tissue passivity and allows for coronal advancement of soft tissue with minimal tension. The supra-crestal sling (SCS) suture engages only the CTG, independent of the overlying tissue and stabilizes the CTG around the buccal and proximal root surfaces.

The antifouling efficacy of hydrophilic polymer coatings is closely related to their surface charge. Many biological foulants such as mammalian cells and marine microalgae possess a negative surface charge, discouraging the use of positively charged polymer coatings for antifouling purposes. Instead, electrically neutral yet hydrophilic polymers have been widely employed, leveraging hydration layers to create a barrier against fouling.

A 1,8-naphthalimide-based tripodal fluorescent ligand (L3) was synthesized through the copper (I) catalyzed Huisgen azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction of 2-(2-azidoethyl)-6-morpholino-1 H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2 H)-dione with triproparagylamine. Naphthalimide acts as the fluorophore while the triazole and amine nitrogens chelate the metal ion. L3 showed a selective fluorescence turn-off for Cu(II) over other metal ions in aqueous acetonitrile solution.

Recent human brain imaging studies have identified widely distributed cortical areas that represent information about the meaning of language. Yet, the dynamic nature of widespread neural activity as a correlate of the semantic information processing remains poorly explored. Our state space analysis of electroencephalograms (EEGs) recorded during semantic match-to-category task show that depending on the semantic category and decision path chosen by participants, whole-brain delta-band dynamics follow distinct trajectories that are correlated with participants' response time on a trial-by-trial basis.

Background: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a useful negative predictor of infectious complications following colorectal surgery. Whilst a CRP level below reported cut-offs on postoperative day (POD) 3 to 5 can be reassuring, it can be difficult to interpret an elevated CRP above these cut-offs. This study evaluated whether investigating an elevated CRP on POD 3-5 allows earlier detection of infectious complications.
