This descriptive longitudinal study aims to assess the risk factors for severe thoracic and lumbar vertebral compression fractures before and after surgery, contributing to preventive knowledge enhancement in communities and effective treatment management. The study involved 34 patients diagnosed with thoracic and lumbar vertebral compression fractures requiring surgery with bio-cement-augmented pedicle screws between June 2021 and June 2022. Postoperative complications, notably adjacent segment injury, were monitored, and patients received osteoporosis management post-surgery.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to chlorine gas inhalation is a rare yet critical condition that can lead to severe respiratory failure if not managed promptly. This case report presents a 43-year-old male who developed ARDS after accidental exposure to chlorine gas during pool maintenance. The patient's condition deteriorated rapidly, with symptoms progressing to acute pulmonary edema and severe hypoxemia, requiring immediate transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Co TMO ( = 6-8), (TM = V, Cr, Mn, and Fe) clusters are investigated using density functional theory calculations. The transition metal atoms preferentially replace one Co atom at sites where the number of metal-oxygen bonds is maximized, forming more stable structures. The evaporation of a Co atom is the most fragile dissociation channel for both pure and doped species.

MFeO (M = Co, Fe, Mn) nanoparticles were successfully formed through the chemical co-precipitation technique. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis were used to investigate samples' structural properties. The investigated structural properties included phases formed, crystallite size, cation distribution, hopping length, bond length, bond angle, edge length, and shared and unshared octahedral edge length.

Introduction And Importance: Os odontoideum is a rare condition commonly associated with atlantoaxial instability (AAI) and leading to atlantoaxial dislocation. The incidence of Os odontoideum is higher in patients with Down syndrome. Similar to odontoid fractures, atlantoaxial dislocation in patients with Os odontoideum can result in neurological deficits, disability, and even mortality.

The electronic, magnetic, optical and elastic properties of nanomaterials are governed partially by the crystallite size and crystal defects. Here, the crystalline size of hexagonal LaSrMnO ( = 0.3) nanoparticles was determined using various methods.

Unlabelled: Transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TPELD) recently confirms its superiority compared to typical open discectomy in the treatment of very high-grade migrated disk herniation. In Vietnam, this technique has been applied in recent years; however; lack of reports and evidence.

Objectives: In this study, the authors would like to share their surgical experience and report the initial results in their center, after successfully performing TPELD for very high-grade migrated disk herniation in 40 patients.

Despite medicinal advances, cancer is still a big problem requiring better diagnostic and treatment tools. Magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-based nanosystems for multiple-purpose applications were developed for these unmet needs. This study fabricated novel trifunctional MNPs of FeO@PLA-PEG for drug release, MRI and magnetic fluid hyperthermia.

Background: Despite its well-known effectiveness in vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), kyphoplasty could also bring the risk of developing subsequent VCFs post-augmentation, especially at adjacent vertebrae, which has been rarely reported in Asian countries.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we performed cement augmentation on 69 vertebrae in 65 patients at the Spine Surgery Department, Viet Duc University Hospital, from June 2019 to November 2020. Cement augmentation was performed on 69 vertebrae in 65 patients.

Background: Dengue fever is highly endemic in Vietnam, but scrub typhus-although recognized as an endemic disease-remains underappreciated. These diseases together are likely to account for more than half of the acute undifferentiated fever burden in Vietnam. Scrub typhus (ST) is a bacterial disease requiring antimicrobial treatment, while dengue fever (DF) is of viral etiology and does not.

We investigated the coupling phenomenon between plasmonic resonance and waveguide modes through theoretical and experimental parametric analyses on the bimetallic waveguide-coupled long-range surface plasmon resonance (Bi-WCLRSPR) structure. The calculation results indicated that the multi-plasmonic coupling gives rise to the enhanced depth-to-width ratio of the reflection dip compared to that of LRSPR excited using a single set of Ag and Teflon. The optimized thickness of Ag(40 nm)/Teflon(700 nm)/Ag(5 nm)/Au(5 nm) was obtained and generated the highest plasmon intensity enhancement, which was 2.

Article Synopsis
  • Scrub typhus, caused by the Orientia tsutsugamushi bacterium, is an increasingly recognized tropical disease in Vietnam that often presents as an undifferentiated febrile illness due to limited diagnostic capabilities.
  • A study conducted in Khanh Hoa province between August 2018 and March 2020 involved surveillance and case-control methods, with data collected on demographics, behaviors, and environmental factors, utilizing various diagnostic tests.
  • Findings revealed that factors such as lying on the floor, poor household sanitation, risky workplace environments, and frequent presence of mice were significantly associated with increased risk of scrub typhus infection among the studied populations.

Magnetic inductive heating (MIH) has been a topic of great interest because of its potential applications, especially in biomedicine. In this paper, the parameters characteristic for magnetic inductive heating power including maximum specific loss power (SLP), optimal nanoparticle diameter (D) and its width (ΔD) are considered as being dependent on magnetic nanoparticle anisotropy (K). The calculated results suggest 3 different Néel-domination (N), overlapped Néel/Brownian (NB), and Brownian-domination (B) regions.
