We experimentally demonstrate a pulsed operation in a random fiber laser operation via self-gain-switching. The pulses have low timing jitter and high average output power. We show that repetition rate switches abruptly while varying the pump power, and introduce a simple formula for oscillation frequencies.

We perform a detailed quantitative numerical analysis of a partially coherent quasi-cw fiber laser on the example of a high-Q normal dispersion cavity Raman fiber laser. The key role of precise spectral performances of fiber Bragg gratings forming the laser cavity is clarified. It is shown that cross-phase modulation between the pump and Stokes waves does not affect the generation.

Article Synopsis
  • A new all-fiber Raman fiber laser (RFL) has been created with a tuning range exceeding 50 nm and can produce up to 3.2 W of output power, achieving 72% slope efficiency.
  • The output power remains stable between 1258-1303 nm.
  • The laser's spectrum width and power density can be adjusted using fiber Bragg gratings, making it suitable for efficient frequency doubling.
