The authors have shown that rat strains with varied excitability of the nervous system also differ in thyroid morphofunctional features. Selection based on the nervous system excitability threshold resulted in divergence of reactivity of the endocrine system (the thyroid) to prolonged stress.

It is recommended to estimate the clinical effect of antibacterial therapy in patients with different purulent inflammatory complications with an account of the data on both the clinical and bacteriological examinations. The full affect consisted in disappearance of the clinical signs and complete bacteriological sanation of the purulent inflammatory foci. The partial effect was shown by a marked decrease in the clinical manifestations without complete bacteriological sanation of the foci.

To reveal preclinical cardiac performance changes, conventional and unique ECG processing procedures were used in 101 individuals. A classification of heart function was developed, which was based on a comprehensive assessment of ECG. The results of the clinicofunctional classification were well comparable with those of a quantitative ECG analysis made with heuristical methods.

The authors studied the effect of vitamin E administered antenatally in view of miscarriage on the body of the fetus and newborn. Experiments made on albino rats, their fetuses and newborn rats demonstrated an increase of the mass of the newborn and their organs together with a greater morphofunctional maturity and higher content of vitamin E in the body. Administration of vitamin E to pregnant women also provided a beneficial effect: a favourable course of the neonatal period, a milder course of diseases that occurred, and a high level of natural antioxidants in the children's body.

The method of dietetic interview was used in a strictly standardized epidemiological investigation of a random sample of males aged from 30 to 59 years (n-2537) in Kiev. A dependence has been revealed between the use of alcohol and disorders in the character of nutrition unfavourable in respect to coronary heart disease. A relationship has been established between the alcohol use and the incidence rate of such risk factors of coronary heart disease as hyperlipoproteinemia, excessive body mass, smoking, and the incidence of myocardial infarction.

Using histological, electron microscopic, and biochemical (measurement of total thyroxine, free thyroxine and triiodothyronine in plasma) method, thyroid glands of 17 male rats of the Wistar SPF strain flown for 7 days on Cosmos-1667 and for 13 days on Cosmos-1887 were investigated. It was found that a longer exposure to space flight effects (for 13 days) led to a thyroid activity decline (significant reduction of thyrocyte size and nuclear area, accumulation of colloid drops in the cytoplasm, decrease of iodinated thyroglobulins in the colloid, etc.) together with a substantial decrease of T4 and T3 in plasma.

The authors studied the resistance of animals to emotional stress when they were given in the diet, as a source of protein, casein and a protein fraction composed of a mixture of amino acids and low-molecular peptides (18 and 2.7%) obtained by reprocessing Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, biomass. The ECG, rheovasogram, systolic arterial pressure, and respiratory rate were studied in rats given a diet containing 18 and 2.

The results of investigation of lipid peroxidation in experimental Salmonella infection in 21-day-old rabbits are analyzed. Salmonella infection was accompanied by activation of lipid peroxidation not only in enterocytes, but also in blood serum. An increase in the level of malonic dialdehyde leads to a decrease in the antioxidation capacity and in the peroxidation resistance of erythrocytic membranes.

Rats with spontaneous hypertension (strain SHR) reveal retarded somatic growth at early stages of ontogenesis. However, in further postnatal life, after transition to self-feeding, these animals exhibit larger body mass. Significant correlation was found between the arterial pressure and body mass.

A multiparameter description of different functional states of human organism has been accomplished on the basis of clinical and polymetric study of healthy and ill humans. The analysis of multiparameter data has been carried out using symmetry approach, image recognition, and graphic simulation. A harmonic correlation between complex physiological parameters of cardiovascular, respiratory, and vegetative nervous system is characteristic for healthy humans.

A method is described for the preparation of sera highly active in reactions with Group A Streptococcus lipoteichoic acid. Ultrasound-destroyed biomass of Streptomyces levoris K-3053 strain is used as the antigen. This strain was isolated in studies of soil Streptomyces; it contains sufficient amounts of nonglycosylated glycerolteichoic acid of the first-third types, that is identical in structure to polyglycerophosphate skeleton of Group A Streptococcus lipoteichoic acid.

Studies of the changes in the rat tail blood vessels in heating shows a considerable increase in slow oscillation frequency, apart from the rheographic index elevation. The hyperthermic effect became considerably lesser in elimination of these oscillations with ganglio- or adrenoblocking agents. The mechanism of hyperemia in heating associated with modulation of mechanic contractions of vascular smooth muscles, are discussed.

A geometrical model of inhibition of neuroeffector transmission of the sympathetic system was constructed on the basis of the polymetric method of registration of a complex of somatovegetative indices and multiparametric description of the effect of alpha- and beta-adrenergic blocking agents and adrenomimetic drugs in experiments on intact rats. Similar multiparametric description of the effect of therapeutic doses of adrenergic blocking agents on patients with hypertension was conducted in the clinic. The results obtained in the clinic were interpreted on the basis of the experimental models.

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA) of group A streptococci, type M 29 was studied. Chemical and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis showed that the polymer contained poly(glycerophosphate) chain consisting of 12-14 glycerophosphate elements united by the 1----3 type phosphodiether bond and diglucosylglyceride. Oleic, stearic, palmitic and palmitoleic fatty acids predominated in the polymer composition.

The authors analyzed 255 case records of patients with symptomatic arterial hypertension treated in the Clinics of the Kiev Research Institute of Cardiology in 1985-1986 with the purpose of differential diagnosis of AH on the out-patient stage. It is concluded that the outpatient level of diagnosis was insufficient mainly due to the subjective character.

A qualitative characteristics of a symmetry of correlations in ECG parameters has been studied in experiments on rats with the adaptation syndrome and hypertonic patients (I-II stages). A geometrical model of cardiac cycle shaped as a rectangular triangle with temporal and amplitude ECG parameters as catheti. A total correlation between the ECG parameters is given: QT--QRS/QT--PQ.
