In Kemerovo Region (Kuzbass, Southwest Siberia), there is the largest coal basin in Russia and one of the largest in the world. Active moss biomonitoring was applied to assess the impact of potentially toxic elements on air pollution in five urban areas of the region. In each of the chosen urban regions, the moss bags were exposed in November and December of 2022 at locations with varying degrees of anthropogenic pressure.

Urine analysis is an attractive approach for non-invasive cancer diagnostics. In this study, a procedure for the determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human urine (acetone, acetonitrile, dimethylsulfide, dimethyl disulfide, dimethyl trisulfide, hexane, benzene, toluene, 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, pentanal) has been described including sample preparation using preconcentration of analytes in sorbent tubes followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fractional factorial design and constrained surfaces design were used to optimize preconcentration of VOCs in sorbent tubes.

Article Synopsis
  • Precision graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have unique properties influenced by their shapes, making them promising for carbon-based electronics.
  • The study introduces a new type of GNR, called wavy GNR (wGNR), which incorporates eight-membered rings and is created through a specific chemical process.
  • This new wGNR shows effective light emission and prevents unwanted aggregation, demonstrating potential use in organic light-emitting devices, which may enhance future technologies in optoelectronics.

(Im)P-P(Dipp)˙ (1˙), a rare example of a neutral, mixed substituted diphosphene radical, has been prepared by reduction of (Im)PP(Dipp)[OTf] (2[OTf]) and (Im)PP(Cl)(Dipp) (3) with cobaltocene (CoCp) (Im = 4,5-dichloro-1,3-bis(1,3-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2-yl, Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl). Radical compound 1˙ readily activates white phosphorus (P), resulting in the formation of an intriguing octaphosphane butterfly compound P(Im)(Dipp) (4).

Hippocampal cross-frequency theta-gamma coupling (TGC) is a basic mechanism for information processing, retrieval, and consolidation of long-term and working memory. While the role of entorhinal afferents in the modulation of hippocampal TGC is widely accepted, the influence of other main input to the hippocampus, from the medial septal area (MSA, the pacemaker of the hippocampal theta rhythm) is poorly understood. Optogenetics allows us to explore how different neuronal populations of septohippocampal circuits control neuronal oscillations in vivo.

A negatively curved aza-nanographene (NG) containing two octagons was synthesized by a regioselective and stepwise cyclodehydrogenation procedure, in which a double aza[7]helicene was simultaneously formed as an intermediate. Their saddle-shaped structures with negative curvature were unambiguously confirmed by X-ray crystallography, thereby enabling the exploration of the structure-property relationship by photophysical, electrochemical and conformational studies. Moreover, the assembly of the octagon-embedded aza-NG with fullerenes was probed by fluorescence spectral titration, with record-high binding constants (K=9.

We present a straightforward one-step process to access a range of novel -diindolepyrazines via an unprecedented [-BuN][Fe(CO)(NO)] (TBA[Fe])-catalyzed intermolecular nitrogenative dimerization of various indole derivatives. Remarkably, tosylazide functions as a N1-synthon forming the central pyrazine unit that joins the two indole subunits. The catalytic transformation shows a good substrate scope, and the obtained products show interesting electronic properties.

The prevalence of bipolar disorder (BD) in modern society is growing rapidly, but due to the lack of paraclinical criteria, its differential diagnosis with other mental disorders is somewhat challenging. In this regard, the relevance of proteomic studies is increasing due to the development of methods for processing large data arrays; this contributes to the discovery of protein patterns of pathological processes and the creation of new methods of diagnosis and treatment. It seems promising to search for proteins involved in the pathogenesis of BD in an easily accessible material-blood serum.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, mostly due to diagnostics in the advanced stage. Therefore, the development of a quick, simple, and non-invasive diagnostic tool to identify cancer is essential. However, the creation of a reliable diagnostic tool is possible only in case of selectivity to other diseases, particularly, cancer of other localizations.

The review is devoted to the methods of introducing aryl functional groups to the CNT surface. Arylated nanotubes are characterized by extended solubility, and are widely used in photoelectronics, semiconductor technology, and bioelectrocatalysis. The main emphasis is on arylation methods according to the radical mechanism, such as the Gomberg-Bachmann and Billups reactions, and the decomposition of peroxides.

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) are common complications of CLL. The optimal treatment of steroid refractory AIHA/PRCA is not well established. We conducted a multicenter study of ibrutinib and rituximab in patients with relapsed/refractory to steroids AIHA/PRCA and underlying CLL.

Pentagon-heptagon embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have aroused increasing attention in recent years due to their unique physicochemical properties. Here, for the first time, this report demonstrates a facile method for the synthesis of a novel B N -doped PAH (BN-2) containing two pairs of pentagonal and heptagonal rings in only two steps. In the solid state of BN-2, two different conformations, including saddle-shaped and up-down geometries, are observed.

Effective treatment and prevention of infections challenge management of patients with chronic lymphicytic leukemia (CLL). The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the reduction of outpatient hospital visits as a part of non-pharmaceutical interventions that could affect the incidence of infectious complications. Study enrolled patients with CLL receiving ibrutinib or/and venetoclax who were observed at the Moscow City Centre of Hematology from 01 April 2017 to 31 March 2021.

Dopamine, adrenaline and octopamine are small polar molecules that play a vital role in regulatory systems. In this paper, phthalylglycyl chloride was proposed as a derivatization agent for octopamine, adrenaline and dopamine determination in urine for the first time. The derivatization procedure facilitated the use of reversed-phase liquid chromatography with positive electrospray ionization-high-resolution mass spectrometry.
