Purpose: Using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), this study was undertaken to determine how well patients with early onset scoliosis (EOS) fare in adulthood.

Methods: Among eight healthcare centers, 272 patients (≥ 18 years) surgically managed for EOS (≥ 5 years) completed the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22r, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-10 (FACIT-Dyspnea-10), and Short Form (SF)-12. Functional and demographic data were collected.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how preoperative factors like tobacco use, opioid usage, and obesity affect pain and function after arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs.
  • Smoking significantly correlated with worse pain and functional scores post-surgery, while opioid use had no notable impact.
  • Interestingly, alcohol use was linked to better functional scores in the long term, highlighting that smoking and opioid consumption are modifiable factors that could enhance surgical outcomes.

Background: Guiding expectations following shoulder arthroplasty is important in improving patient satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to develop a predictive model to calculate 2-year American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) scores in shoulder arthroplasty patients from a comprehensive set of preoperative patient factors and types of arthroplasty performed.

Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included 1947 shoulder arthroplasties performed from 2010 to 2015 at 3 high-volume centers.
