Observation: We report on the case of a 3-year-old child from La Réunion island, who presented with hypoglycemic hypoketotic coma secondary to a primary Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. The discovery of the G1528C homozygote mutation provided the diagnosis of long-chain-3-hydroxyacyl-CoA-dehydrogenase (LCHAD); an adapted dietary plan with prevention of fasting and L-carnitine supplementation was initiated. After 2 years, a pigmentary retinopathy appeared and muscle weakness increased.

Introduction: In March 2005, an epidemic of chikungunya virus began in the southern portion of Reunion Island (French overseas district in the Indian Ocean) and spread to the northern part of the island at the end of 2005. The Reunion-South Hospital Group observed the first cases of pregnant women infected with the virus in June 2005. We report here for the first time maternal-fetal transmission of this virus.

Objectives: Analysis of obstetrical risk factors in teenage primiparous pregnancies in Reunion Island (4% of total births).

Materials And Methods: Retrospective study, between 2001 and 2002, comparing primiparous adolescents (13-17 years, n = 365), with primiparous controls (18-29 years, n = 2050). The analysis included demographical factors, maternal medical histories, prenatal follow-up, obstetrical risk factors, delivery modes and neonatal characteristics.
