: Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the formation of intranuclear inclusions in cells. Adult-type NIID usually develops in elderly patients with various clinical manifestations and is sometimes accompanied by ocular symptoms. A case of adult-onset NIID with early and unique manifestations, including a progressive corneal defect and retinal changes, which are concerning at a young age, is reported.

We developed a technique that can measure corneal transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) in mice, which was used for evaluating corneal toxicity induced by ophthalmic drugs. We used a tissue culture well and its insert to mount the mouse globe and separated the cornea from the rest of the globe to enable corneal TER measurements to be taken. The explanted mouse eyes were divided into groups, and the corneal epithelia were exposed to different concentrations of BAC.

Background: Most cases of microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis are found in the Southern hemisphere. Our purpose was to investigate the first outbreak of microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis in Japan among healthy, immunocompetent soccer players from the same team during a 1-month period.

Case Presentation: This study is an observational case series.

Article Synopsis
  • A 72-year-old male farmer developed severe microbial keratitis, leading to significant corneal melting and a descemetocele, with the cornea almost entirely destroyed and the intraocular lens visible through the pupil.
  • After being hospitalized and treated with antibiotics to manage inflammation, the patient underwent corneoscleral transplantation and repair of the corneal limbus, which included suturing the graft and forming the anterior chamber.
  • Post-surgery, there was no recurrence of infection, the corneal epithelium healed well, and although the patient’s visual acuity was limited to light perception, he was satisfied with the preservation of his eye and opted not to seek further treatment.

A previous study suggested that the airlift condition is superior to the Optisol-GS condition for preserving the limbal tissue of the human cornea. The purpose of this research is to investigate a new preservation device that preserves the cornea while separating epithelial and endothelial areas. The differences after preserving the corneal epithelium under different conditions were compared.

Globally, gastric cancer (GC) ranks fourth in the incidence of malignant tumors. The early clinical manifestations of GC lack specificity. Most patients are already at an advanced stage when they are first diagnosed, and their late progression is mainly due to peritoneal metastasis.

The amplification of oncogenes on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) provides a new mechanism for cancer cells to adapt to the changes in the tumor microenvironment and accelerate tumor evolution. These extrachromosomal elements contain oncogenes, and their chromatin structures are more open than linear chromosomes and therefore have stronger oncogene transcriptional activity. ecDNA always contains enhancer elements, and genes on ecDNA can be reintegrated into the linear genome to regulate the selective expression of genes.

To determine the incidence, spectrum, timing, and clinical features of CD19 Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T) cell therapy-associated fatal toxic effects. We initiated a comprehensive analysis. First, we retrospectively queried the real-world data from a World Health Organization (WHO) pharmacovigilance database (Vigilyze).

Herein, we report a crystalline CoTcPP-based [TcPP = the anion of meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin] polymeric system, 1, as a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalyst in acidic aqueous media. The material was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (p-XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and its morphology was probed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Polymer 1 shows a surface area of 441.
