The present study was done to investigate the neurotransmitter mechanisms involved in gabapentin antinociception in healthy albino rats. The formalin test was used to asses antinociception. Gabapentin (10-120 mg/kg s.

The preprophase band predicts the future cell division site. However, the mechanism of how a transient preprophase band fulfils this function is unknown. We have investigated the possibility that Golgi secretion might be involved in marking the preprophase band site.

Background: Bacterial infections are common in patients with cirrhosis of liver and are frequently treated with ciprofloxacin. Literature on pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in patients with cirrhosis of the liver is scanty. The present study compared the pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in cirrhotic patients with that in healthy volunteers.

The effect of an acidic beverage (Coca-Cola) on the pharmacokinetics of a single dose of carbamazepine was studied. In a two-way cross-over design with a 1 week washout period, 10 healthy volunteers were randomized to received 200 mg carbamazepine orally with 300 ml of Coca-Cola or water. Blood samples were collected at 0, 0.

Cell division involves the coordinated progression of karyokinesis and cytokinesis, which is accomplished by communication between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. We have utilized green-fluorescent-protein technology to generate a line of tobacco 'Bright Yellow 2' (BY-2) cells labeled for both microtubules and the nuclear envelope. This cell line allowed us to use living cells to investigate the relationship between nuclear-envelope breakdown and preprophase band disappearance with high spatial and temporal resolution.

An extremely rare case of cavitating large cell carcinoma lung is reported in a middle aged man who developed pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema on thirteenth day of his tele cobalt radiotherapy to chest. Possible mechanisms of such complications during radiotherapy are also discussed.

Rabbit antibodies to five antigens (AJ** 29, 35, 43, 64, and 80 kDa) derived from the ovaries of Anopheles stephensi tended to reduce the number of eggs produced. Ingestion of anti-mosquito ovary antibodies did not show a detectable effect on the mortality of mosquitoes. Antisera raised against An.

Anxiety disorders are more prevalent not only in normal individuals but also in diabetes mellitus. Diazepam, a benzodiazepine, and buspirone, an azaspirodecanedione, are the most often prescribed anxiolytics. Present study was aimed to investigate the effect of diazepam and buspirone on the blood sugar levels in rabbits.

The present study shows the effect of omeprazole administration on the pharmacokinetics of a sustained-release preparation of carbamazepine in healthy male volunteers. Multiple dose administration of omeprazole increased the Cmax, AUC0-infinity and elimination half life (t1/2e) of carbamazepine. The results suggest that drug monitoring should be carried out when carbamazepine is coadministered with omeprazole.

Objective: The present study was planned to evaluate the efficacy and diagnostic reliability of conoctional parietal pleural biopsy to a technique of visceral pleural biopsy.

Method: Study comprises of 54 diagnosed cases of pleural effusion and after establishing the clinical diagnosis for probable etiological causes. Then parietal pleural biopsy using absents punch biopsy needle and vesceral pleural biopsy using Prabhudesai et al technique was taken in all these patients.

In crucifers, the ability of the stigma to differentially modulate hydration of pollen grains, depending on whether the pollen is recognized to be compatible or incompatible, represents a crucial stage in pollination. Our recent analysis of the mod mutation of Brassica, which results in a breakdown of the self-incompatibility response, led to the isolation of a gene linked to the MOD locus which is expressed at low levels in mod mutants. The gene is predicted to encode a plasma membrane-localized aquaporin-like protein and has been designated MIP-MOD.

The drug candidate DFP [5,5-dimethyl-3-(2-isopropoxy)-4-(4-methanesulfonylphenyl)-2(5H)-furanone] is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor under evaluation for analgesic and anti-inflammatory therapy. The in vitro metabolic pathways (rat microsomes) involve hydroxylation of the isopropyl side chain at either of two positions, the methyl or the methine, thus producing a hydroxylated metabolite (DFHP) or a dealkylated metabolite (DFH). DFH formation was the major pathway.

Twenty-nine cases of tuberculosis developing pleural effusion (PE) during antituberculous chemotherapy (ATT) were analysed for clinical presentation and management outcome. Sixteen (55%) patients had pulmonary tuberculosis alone while rest had associated or isolated extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Thirteen (44.

The S-locus-encoded S receptor kinase (SRK) is an intrinsic plasma membrane protein that is viewed as the primary stigma determinant of specificity in the self-incompatibility response of Brassica spp. We analyzed two self-compatible mutant strains that express low levels of the S-locus glycoprotein (SLG), a cell wall-localized protein also encoded at the S locus that is coordinately expressed with SRK. We found that mutant stigmas synthesized wild-type levels of SRK transcripts but failed to produce SRK protein at any of the developmental stages analyzed.

We compared the anterior approaches of internal jugular venous cannulation in 200 surgical patients, vis-à-vis the ease of cannulation and threading, number of attempts required and the incidence of complications following each route. The technique of posterior approach used in this study was found to have a higher rate of success in cannulation and lower rate of complication such as carotid puncture. The posterior approach was also a safe alternate route in obese or short necked patients.

The most hazardous manifestation of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is progressive hypoxia for which bronchopulmonary lavage (BPL) is the single most effective treatment. Unfortunately this procedure under general anesthesia itself increases the risk of hypoxia due to the need for one lung ventilation. It was therefore considered interesting to report the successful anaesthetic management of a patient with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis for Bronchopulmonary lavage.

The diet can significantly alter the results of toxicity and carcinogenicity studies. Ad libitum (AL) overfeeding of excessive calories to sedentary adult rodents is one of the most poorly controlled variables affecting the current rodent bioassay. AL-overfed rodents develop an early onset of adverse metabolic events, endocrine-disruptive degenerative diseases, and tumors that result in early morbidity and mortality.
