The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has pioneered teleoncology to address access challenges faced by Veterans requiring cancer care. This ASCO Educational Book highlights the development of teleoncology programs within the VHA: the local VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) Virtual Cancer Care Center, the National TeleOncology Program (NTO), and the regional Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) Oncology Program. These initiatives provide oncology care using a hub-and-spoke model, which centralizes expertise at hub sites and reaches Veterans at distant spoke sites through synchronous and asynchronous care.

Objective: To evaluate whether a multilevel intervention could improve clinician-documented ACP compared with a clinician-level intervention alone.
Purpose: Financial toxicity is a source of significant distress for patients with urologic cancers, yet few studies have addressed financial burden in this patient population.
Methods: We developed a financial toxicity screening program using a lay health worker (LHW) and social worker (SW) to assess and mitigate financial toxicity in a single academic medical clinic. As part of a quality improvement project, the LHW screened all newly diagnosed patients with advanced stages of prostate, kidney, or urothelial cancer for financial burden using three COST tool questions and referred patients who had significant financial burden to an SW who provided personalized recommendations.
Purpose: Patients with metastatic cancer benefit from advance care planning (ACP) conversations. We aimed to improve ACP using a computer model to select high-risk patients, with shorter predicted survival, for conversations with providers and lay care coaches. Outcomes included ACP documentation frequency and end-of-life quality measures.

Purpose: Window of opportunity trials (WOT) are increasingly common in oncology research. In WOT participants receive a drug between diagnosis and anti-cancer treatment, usually for the purpose of investigating that drugs effect on cancer biology. This qualitative study aimed to understand patient perspectives on WOT.

Introduction: This study reviews malpractice, also called medical professional liability (MPL), claims involving adult patients cared for in emergency departments (ED) and urgent care settings.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of closed MPL claims of adults over 18 years, from the Medical Professional Liability Association's Data Sharing Project database from 2001-2015, identifying 6,779 closed claims. Data included the total amount, origin, top medical specialties named, chief medical factors, top medical conditions, severity of injury, resolution, average indemnity, and defense costs of closed claims.
Purpose: The financial toxicity of cancer care is a source of significant distress for patients with cancer. The purpose of this study is to understand factors associated with financial toxicity in three distinct care systems.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of patients in three care systems, Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI), VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), from October 2017 to May 2019.

Background: Financial toxicity describes the financial burden imposed onto patients by a cancer diagnosis and is a growing concern. Many clinicians do not currently address financial toxicity despite patients' desire for them to do so. Current literature explores physicians' perspectives but does not clearly define an actionable role clinicians can take to address financial toxicity.

Globally, cancer care delivery is marked by inequalities, where some , and groups have worse outcomes than others. In this review, we sought to identify patient-facing interventions designed to reduce disparities in cancer care in both high- and low-income countries. We found two broad categories of interventions that have been studied in the current literature: Patient navigation and telehealth.

Despite clinical advancements, gaps remain in our understanding of characteristics of patients with -positive () cancers. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively assess demographic, clinical, and environmental characteristics associated with cancers worldwide.

Little is known about the subsequent behaviors of such patients in terms of managing cancer risks and informing relatives.
Methods: All adult patients who were counseled and tested at the Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic from January 2013 to July 2015 and had a pathogenic variant in a non-, non-Lynch syndrome gene were invited to participate in a telephone interview about adherence to risk-reducing recommendations, genetic testing by relatives, and new cancer incidence.
Objectives: This study aimed to provide an assessment of medical malpractice claims involving pediatric patients cared for in emergency department and urgent care settings.
Methods: We performed a retrospective review of all closed malpractice claims involving children (0-17 years old) originating from emergency department or urgent care centers from the Physician Insurers Association of America's Data Sharing Project database for a 15-year period (2001-2015). Reported data collected include medical specialty involved, medical diagnoses, chief medical factors, severity of resulting injury, claim disposition, average indemnity, and average defense costs.
Purpose: To describe characteristics of closed medical professional liability (MPL) claims against ophthalmologists in the United States.
Design: Retrospective analysis of MPL claims from 2006-2015. Data were obtained from the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) Data Sharing Project (DSP).
Purpose And Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the impact of patient demographics, tumor characteristics, and treatment type on time to treatment (TTT) in patients with breast cancer treated at a safety net medical center with a diverse patient population.
Patients And Methods: A total of 1,130 patients were diagnosed and treated for breast cancer between 2004 and 2014 at our institution. We retrospectively collected data on patient age at diagnosis, race/ethnicity, primary language spoken, marital status, insurance coverage, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage, hormone receptor status, and treatment dates.
Objective. To examine the impact of patient demographics on mortality in breast cancer patients receiving care at a safety net academic medical center. Patients and Methods.

There is a generally held belief that treatment of pediatric patients increases one's medicolegal risk. We examined a large national database of orthopaedic malpractice claims to determine if pediatric malpractice claims were associated with a less favorable medicolegal outcome compared with adults.

We determined the attitudes toward and practices regarding soil-transmitted helminthes (STH) control among parents and school teachers to identify reasons behind attitudes and practices that do not promote STH control. Written knowledge, attitudes and practices surveys were distributed to parents (N = 531) and teachers (N = 105) of students at 11 elementary schools in Guimaras Province, the Philippines. The survey addressed attitudes about mass drug administration (MDA), knowledge about STH control, hygienic practices, and acceptability of distributing deworming tablets among teachers.

This report presents data describing a large cohort of closed cardiovascular medical professional liability (MPL) claims. The Physician Insurers Association of America established a registry of closed MPL claims in 1985. This registry contains data describing 230,624 closed claims for 28 medical specialties through 2007.
