Article Synopsis
  • In utero exposure to environmental polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) is linked to neurodevelopmental issues, prematurity, and low birth weight, highlighting the need to study its effects on the gut microbiome.
  • A study of 49 mother-child pairs analyzed the impact of prenatal PAH exposure on meconium microbiome, finding no significant differences in overall microbiome diversity between high and low/medium PAH exposure groups.
  • However, certain bacteria showed varying abundance linked to specific PAH compounds, suggesting that while general diversity remained stable, specific microbial communities may be affected by PAH exposure.

Article Synopsis
  • Preterm babies with breathing problems like BPD and high blood pressure in the lungs (PH) face serious health issues as they grow up.
  • Klotho is a special protein that helps slow down aging and protect the lungs, and lower levels of this protein in preterm babies could make their breathing problems worse.
  • In tests with baby rats, giving extra Klotho helped protect their lungs from damage caused by too much oxygen, showing that keeping Klotho levels high might help preterm babies breathe better in the long run.

Introduction: Patients who are unable to fill prescriptions after discharge are at risk of hospital readmission. Ensuring that patients have prescriptions in hand at the time of discharge is a critical component of a safe and effective discharge process. Using a "Meds to Beds" program, we aimed to increase the percentage of patients discharged from Holtz Children's Hospital with medications in hand from 49% to 80%, reduce turnaround time (TAT) from electronic prescription signature to bedside delivery from 4.

Objectives: Pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at an increased risk of developing depression compared with community controls. Depression often negatively influences illness behaviors such as resource utilization. We sought to investigate the effects of treating depression on utilization of medical resources in depressed pediatric patients with IBD by comparing rates of health care utilization 1 year before and after psychotherapy.
