A particle with a diameter ranging from 1 to 100 nm is considered a nanoparticle (NP). Owing to their small size and high surface area, NPs possess unique physical, chemical and biological properties as compared to their bulkier counterparts. This paper describes various physico-chemical as well as green methods that can be used to synthesize different types of NPs including carbon-based, ceramic, metal, semiconductor, polymeric and lipid-based NPs.
