Additional clinical value of routine CT imaging in fragility fractures of the pelvis: a prospective cohort study (ARTIFACT).

Purpose: Additional CT imaging for fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) has a high detection rate for concomitant posterior ring fractures (cPRFs). However, the clinical value of routine additional CT imaging is unknown. This study aimed to determine the additional clinical value of routine CT imaging by changes in treatment policy and to establish the predictive value of pain localized around the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) for cPRFs.

E-bike and classic bicycle-related traumatic brain injuries presenting to the emergency department.

Background: E-bike usage is increasingly popular and concerns about e-bike-related injuries and safety have risen as more injured e-bikers attend the emergency department (ED). Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the main cause of severe morbidity and mortality in bicycle-related accidents. This study compares the frequency and severity of TBI after an accident with an e-bike or classic bicycle among patients treated in the ED.

A 2-year-old boy had fallen at home with a pencil in his hand. On physical examination we found only some blood in the inner corner of his right eye, but MRI showed a traumatic pencil tract into his frontal lobes.

Objective: Waveboarding, a type of skateboarding, is a new craze among children. The aim of this study is to describe how many children visit the emergency department as a consequence of waveboarding and the types of injury they have.

Design: Retrospective, descriptive.

Osteoid osteoma of the spine: a novel technique using combined computer-assisted and gamma probe-guided high-speed intralesional drill excision.

Study Design: A report of five cases of thoracolumbar osteoid osteoma treated with combined computer-assisted and gamma probe-guided high-speed drill excision.

Objectives: To document the surgical technique consisting of a combination of both computer-assisted and gamma probe-guided high-speed drill excision for osteoid osteoma of the spine.

Summary Of Background Data: Curative treatment of spinal osteoid osteoma is performed by surgical intralesional excision of the nidus, but intraoperative localization of the nidus is often difficult.
