Fungal elicitation could improve the secondary metabolite contents of in vitro cultures. Herein, we report the effect of on vinblastine and vincristine alkaloid yields in embryos. The study revealed increased yields of vinblastine and vincristine in tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the use of cadmium chloride (CdCl) as an elicitor to enhance the yield of valuable plant alkaloids (reserpine and ajmalicine) in in vitro cultures of various plant tissues.
  • Optimal growth and alkaloid production were observed at a concentration of 0.15 mM CdCl, with the highest yields found in roots for reserpine and in leaf-derived callus for ajmalicine.
  • The study also examined the antioxidant enzyme activities in response to CdCl, finding increased levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase, indicating a stress response that aids in alkaloid accumulation.
