Corrosion significantly affects the maritime industry. To address this issue, corrosion inhibitors are incorporated into polymeric coatings. However, some state-of-the-art inhibitors are toxic, prone to spontaneous leaching, and interact with coating components.

This study aimed to evaluate the PCE's effectiveness by critically analyzing the disease notification system.
Methods: An ecological study was conducted using data on reported schistosomiasis cases in Brazil between 2007 and 2020.
The global interest in edible insects as sustainable protein sources raises concerns about the bioaccumulation of contaminants, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), to problematic levels. Understanding the accumulation dynamics of PAHs in edible insects is highly relevant due to the widespread sources and toxicological profiles; however, the bioaccumulative potential of PAHs in edible insects is unexplored. This study examined the uptake and elimination dynamics of benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P), a representative and carcinogenic PAH, in yellow mealworm larvae (YMW, Tenebrio molitor).

Objective: To analyze the transmission dynamics of dengue, a public health problem in Brazil and the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (MRBH).
Methods: The spatiotemporal evolution of the occurrence of dengue in the municipality of Contagem, state of Minas Gerais, a region with high arbovirus transmission, was analyzed. Furthermore, epidemic and non-epidemic periods were analyzed, based on probable cases of dengue.
The detrimental impacts of plastic nanoparticles (PNPs) are a worldwide concern, although knowledge is still limited, in particular for soil mesofauna. This study investigates the biochemical impact of 44 nm polystyrene PNPs on three soil models- (Oligochaeta), (Collembola) and (Isopoda). Exposure durations of 3, 7 and 14 days (d) were implemented at two concentrations (1.

Thus, we studied the effects on soil microbiome function and composition of nano copper oxide (nCuO) or copper hydroxide NMs in a commercial (Kocide®3000) or a lab-synthetized formulation (nCu(OH)) or bulk copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)-B), at the commonly recommended Cu dose of 50 mg(Cu)kg soil. Microbial responses were studied over 28 days in a designed indoor mesocosm.

Study aim: To unravel the effects of MoS nanosheets (two-dimensional (2D) MoS NPs) and bulk MoS (156, 313, 625, 1250, 2500 mg/kg) on and . The organisms' survival and avoidance behavior remained unaffected by both forms, while reproduction and DNA integrity were impacted.

Methods And Results: Data on the occurrence of the disease were obtained by means of the Notifiable Diseases Information System of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Joinpoint, temporal generalized additive models and conditional autoregressive (CAR) models were used to analyse the temporal evolution of the rates in Brazil, states and regions.

In Brazil, the fatality rate for visceral leishmaniasis is high, and it is important to investigate its associated factors. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical-epidemiological profile and prognostic factors associated with death from visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in the Central-West region of Brazil, between 2010 and 2019. A study of series of VL cases was carried out using data obtained from the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN).

Background: Tegumentary leishmaniasis (TL) is a significant public health issue in Brazil. The present ecological study describes the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of TL cases reported in the country, and analyzes the spatial and temporal patterns of the incidences and risks of occurrence across the five geopolitical regions and 27 federative units.
Methodology/principal Findings: Data regarding new cases of TL notified between 2001 and 2020 were obtained from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases of the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

Introduction: Regarding male breast cancer, a rare disease comprising ∼1% of breast cancers, data are generally scant. The present study aimed to quantify the imaging detected breast cancer in male gender corpses, determining in this way the prevalence of silent breast cancer in male gender.
Methodology: The population target has been male corpses without clinical expression of breast cancer.
Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a pressing public health problem in Brazil. The proper implementation of disease control programs in priority areas is a challenge for healthcare managers. The present study aimed to analyze the spatio-temporal distribution and identify high risk areas of VL occurrence in the Brazilian territory.

The main purpose of this study is the attempt to prove whether breast imaging can identify silent breast cancers that apparently are common in serial histology analysis. Methodology A series of 217 consecutive medicolegal autopsies on fresh Portuguese cadavers were performed from July 2016 to December 2019 at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science, Lisbon, Portugal.

Nonunion and adjacent joint osteoarthritis (OA) are known complications after a fusion procedure, and foot and ankle surgeons are commonly exposed to such disabling complications. Determining who is at risk of developing nonunion is essential to reducing nonunion rates and improving patient outcomes. Several evidenced-based modifiable risk factors related to adverse outcomes after foot and ankle arthrodesis have been identified.

Mercury (Hg), one of the most toxic metals, has been reported to interact with temperature. However, compared to aquatic biota, little is known about how temperature affects Hg toxicity and bioaccumulation to soil organisms.

Background: Responsible companion animal guardianship (RCAG) comprises a set of concepts involving activities, behavior and care that guardians must provide to ensure the welfare of their animals. When such principles are disregarded, the risk of animals developing zoonotic diseases, such as canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL), increases. This disease is a public health problem in many urban settings in Brazil because dogs are the main reservoirs of Leishmania and are involved in the transmission of the parasites to humans.

The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide, and this population is known to have poorer short and midterm outcomes after ankle fractures. Our objective is to assess long-term patient-reported outcomes in patients with operatively treated ankle fractures, and the effect of BMI on these results using the new and validated patient-reported outcome questionnaire, the Manchester Oxford foot and ankle questionnaire (MOXFQ).

The tension-length relationship and intrinsic viscoelasticity of the native tendon that allows efficient propulsion during ambulation are difficult to restore once the tendon has been injured. Missed or misdiagnosed injuries or failure of surgical or nonsurgical management of acute Achilles tendon ruptures can lead to the tendon healing in an elongated position or lack of healing altogether.
