Ovarian cancer (OC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality among women. Targeting the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) signaling pathway has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy. Linsitinib, an IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) inhibitor, has shown potential in disrupting this pathway.

Paraquat (1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridilium dichloride), a widely used bipyridinium herbicide, is known for inducing oxidative stress, leading to extensive cellular toxicity, particularly in the lungs, liver, kidneys, and central nervous system (CNS), and is implicated in fatal poisonings. Due to its biochemical similarities with the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+), paraquat has been used as a Parkinson's disease model, although its broader neurotoxic effects suggest the participation of multiple mechanisms. Demyelinating diseases are conditions characterized by damage to the myelin sheath of neurons.

Taking advantage of this system, CRISPR-Cas-based technologies have emerged as incredible tools for precise genome editing, thus significantly advancing several research fields. Forensic sciences represent a multidisciplinary field that explores scientific methods to investigate and resolve legal issues, particularly criminal investigations and subject identification.

The use of 'omics' technologies, such as metabolomics and proteomics, has become crucial in detecting subtle biological alterations induced by occupational hazards, thereby opening novel avenues for biomarker discovery.
Aims: This systematic review aims to evaluate the application of metabolomics and proteomics in occupational health.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), frequently considered a major global public health threat, requires a comprehensive understanding of its emergence, mechanisms, advances, and implications. AMR's epidemiological landscape is characterized by its widespread prevalence and constantly evolving patterns, with multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) creating new challenges every day. The most common mechanisms underlying AMR (i.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and B-on, employing keywords like "Forensic Pathology," "Forensic Dentistry," "Pink Teeth," and "Medico-legal aspects." The search included studies without temporal limits to gather extensive data on the postmortem pink teeth phenomenon.
Ethanol blood analysis is the most common request in forensic toxicology, and some studies point to positive results in approximately one-third of all unnatural deaths. However, distinguishing sober deaths from drunk deaths is not as simple as it may seem. This technical, clinical, and forensic interpretation is proposed to interpret the ethanol toxicological results, discussing several artefacts and pitfalls that must be considered, namely focusing on driving under the influence.

Amidst the ongoing military conflict between Ukraine and Russia and the growing concern regarding the potential deployment of nuclear weapons, there has been a surge in the demand for potassium iodide across Europe. This work aimed to comprehensively review the current knowledge regarding the pharmacology, physiology, adverse effects, the protective role in reducing the risk of thyroid cancer and recommendations for potassium iodide use during radiation emergencies.

This body fluid is under-researched, mainly regarding the ascites formed during tumour progression that have no diagnostic value and, therefore, are discarded. We performed a discovery proteomics study to identify new biomarkers in the ascites supernatant of OC patients.

It has gained popularity following the development of computer graphics technologies and has been applied to various branches of medicine. In this study, the authors present a method for low-cost photorealistic documentation of corpses during autopsy using single-camera photogrammetry with a mobile phone.

Although safer than classical opioids, they are associated with neurotoxicity and behavioral dysfunction, which arise as a concern, considering their central action and growing misuse and abuse. The hippocampal formation is known to participate in memory and learning processes and has been documented to contribute to opioid dependence.

ChatGPT presents several advantages in forensic sciences, namely, constituting a virtual assistant to aid lawyers, judges, and victims in managing and interpreting forensic expert data. But what would happen if ChatGPT began to be used to produce forensic expertise reports? Despite its potential applications, the use of ChatGPT and other Large Language Models and artificial intelligence tools in forensic writing also poses ethical and legal concerns, which are discussed in this perspective together with some expected future perspectives.

The acellular fraction of this ascitic fluid contains tumor-promoting soluble factors, bioactive lipids, cytokines, and extracellular vesicles, all of which communicate with the tumor cells within this peritoneal fluid. Metabolomic profiling of ovarian cancer ascites has revealed significant differences in the pathways of fatty acids, cholesterol, glucose, and insulin.

This comprehensive review aims to present the current knowledge about the human microbiome (the necrobiome), highlighting the main factors influencing this complex process and discussing the principal applications in the field of forensic sciences. Several limitations still hindering the implementation of forensic microbiology, such as small-scale studies, the lack of a universal/harmonized workflow for DNA extraction and sequencing technology, variability in the human microbiome, and limited access to human cadavers, are discussed.

However, how modulations of the host cell metabolic pathways support Leishmania infection remains unknown. Herein, we report that lipid accumulation heightens the susceptibility of mice to L.

Intimate partner violence is characterized by violent actions against a person perpetrated by his or her former or current partner, regardless of cohabitation. It most frequently affects women, and one of its most relevant outcomes is the health problems associated with the experience of repeated violence. Thus, the main objective of this study is to analyse the prevalence of health problems among women for whom there was a medical suspicion of being victims of intimate partner violence.
