Long-term risk of mortality and loss to follow-up in children and adolescents on antiretroviral therapy in Asia.

Objective: We described mortality and loss to follow-up (LTFU) in children and adolescents who were under care for more than 5 years following initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Methods: Patients were followed from 5 years after ART until the earlier of their 25th birthday, last visit, death, or LTFU. We used Cox regression to assess predictors of mortality and competing risk regression to assess factors associated with LTFU.

The changing characteristics of a cohort of children and adolescents living with HIV at antiretroviral therapy initiation in Asia.

Despite improvements in HIV testing and earlier antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation in children living with HIV through the years, a considerable proportion start treatment with advanced disease. We studied characteristics of children and adolescents living with HIV and their level of immunodeficiency at ART initiation using data from a multi-country Asian cohort. We included children and adolescents who were ART-naïve and <18 years of age at ART initiation from 2011 to 2020 at 17 HIV clinics in six countries.

Hearing results with the titanium ossicular replacement prostheses.

The purpose was to study the hearing results in patients receiving a Kurz titanium Bell partial ossicular replacement prosthesis (PORP) or an Aerial total ossicular replacement prosthesis (TORP). The study was a retrospective chart review in a tertiary otologic referral center. A computerized otologic database was used to identify 111 patients implanted with either a PORP or TORP prosthesis.

Delayed facial paralysis after vestibular schwannoma surgery: role of herpes viruses reactivation--our experience in eight cases.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to study the role of herpes virus reactivation in the onset of delayed facial paralysis (DFP) occurring more than 72 hours after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery and to advocate specific medical management.

Study Design: We conducted a retrospective case review.

Setting: University-based, tertiary care center.

Surgery of cerebellopontine angle epidermoid cysts: role of the widened retrolabyrinthine approach combined with endoscopy.

Objectives: To evaluate the use of the retrolabyrinthine approach (RLA) combined with endoscopy with particular reference to preservation of cranial nerve function and completeness of excision in surgery of epidermoid cysts.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed on a series of 8 consecutive patients of whom 7 have undergone surgery. Main outcome measures Measures include audiological and neurological status preoperatively and postoperatively, size of the lesion, the surgical approach, completeness of excision, and operative morbidity.
