Purpose/aim: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of joint lavage in managing knee osteoarthritis (OA) by evaluating its effect on pain relief, inflammatory markers, cartilage-degrading enzymes, and oxidative stress.

Methods: Seventy patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 2 or 3 knee OA were selected for this single-center study. Joint lavage was performed, and pain and function were measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores at baseline and 24 weeks postintervention.

: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the position of the humeral head relative to the glenoid and the occurrence of iatrogenic surgical neck fractures of the humerus during anterior glenohumeral dislocation reductions. : Patients with first-time anterior shoulder dislocations without generalized joint hyperlaxity were included. The humeral head displacement ratio was calculated as the distance between the medial border of the humeral head and the anterior glenoid rim divided by the diameter of the humeral head.

Background: This cost of illness study aimed to determine economic burden of short-acting β2-agonist (SABA) overuse in Türkiye from payer perspective with respect to the updated GINA 2022 treatment recommendations.

Methods: A total of 3,034,879 asthma patients comprised the study population, via estimations extrapolated from the Türkiye arm of the global SABINA III study. The economic burden (costs related to the drug use and severe exacerbations) was compared in subgroups of overall (≥ 0 canisters/year) vs.

Introduction: Pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) is one of the most challenging complications observed after a total laryngectomy. Since the biochemical components of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) have well-known synergistic effects on the healing processes, this study aimed to demonstrate the contribution of PRF application to pharyngeal healing in patients undergoing a total laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer.

Methods: The study compared patients who underwent a total laryngectomy due to laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and had a PRF membrane placed during the pharyngoesophageal closure with those who did not.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in preventing complex regional pain syndrome type 1 (CRPS-1) by reducing proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress markers in patients with distal radius fractures. A retrospective single-center study at Bursa City Hospital involves patients over 50 years of age with distal radius fractures treated between January 2021 and December 2023. A total of 60 patients (mean age, 62.

Background Obesity has long been a severe threat to public health as an epidemic, and studies on its pathogenesis and treatment have been ongoing. Our study aims to compare the serum levels of bone morphogenetic protein 1 (BMP1), neuregulin 4 (NRG4), and apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) in obese and non-obese individuals and investigate their association with obesity. Methodology Our study included a total of 111 participants, of whom 46 were obese (body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m), aged 18-65 years, and had no comorbidities, and 65 were non-obese (BMI = 18.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant health problem that affects millions of people worldwide and its end-stage manifestation requires hemodialysis treatment, which can have a considerable impact on patients' mental health and quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between spirituality and anxiety, as well as spirituality and psychological resilience among hemodialysis patients using the iterative weighted least squares method. Participants included 91 hemodialysis patients, consisting of 49 females and 42 males, whose ages ranged from 20 to 82 years, with a mean age of 48 (SD = 14).

Base-mediated rearrangement of 1,3-dithianyl-substituted propargylamines in DMF via expansion of the dithiane ring has been reported. The rearrangement provided 9-membered amino-functionalized sulfur-containing heterocycles (dithionine derivatives) in good yields under mild conditions. Propargylamines bearing 5-membered 1,3-dithiolane and 7-membered 1,3-dithiepane rings rearranged in a similar manner yielding 8- and 10-membered -heterocycles, respectively.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic exposed people to significant and prolonged stress. The psychosocial impacts of the pandemic have been well recognised and reported in high-income countries (HICs) but it is important to understand the unique challenges posed by COVID-19 in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where limited international comparisons have been undertaken. This protocol was therefore devised to study the psychosocial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in seven LMICs using scales that had been designed for or translated for this purpose.

The development of synthetic particles that emulate real viruses in size, shape, and chemical composition is vital to the development of imprinted polymer-based sorbent materials (molecularly imprinted polymers, MIPs). In this study, we address surrogates for adenovirus type 5 (Adv 5) via the synthesis and subsequent modification of icosahedral gold nanoparticles (iAuNPs) decorated with the most abundant protein of the Adv 5 (i.e.

Protein imprinted MIPs show notable potential for applications in many analytical areas such as clinical analysis, medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring, but also in drug delivery scenarios. In this study, we present various modifications of two different synthesis routes to create imprinted core-shell particles serving as a synthetic recognition material for the protein hen egg white (HEW) lysozyme. HEW lysozyme is used as food additive E 1105 for preservation due to its antibacterial effects.
