Article Synopsis
  • Vitamin D, specifically in its active form calcitriol, is crucial for maintaining the balance of calcium and phosphate in the body, which is necessary for healthy bone development.
  • It enhances the absorption of these minerals in the intestines and kidneys, but can be influenced by serum phosphate levels and other factors like FGF23 and PTH.
  • Imbalances in phosphate levels, whether too high or too low, can lead to health issues such as cardiovascular problems, chronic kidney diseases, and bone disorders like rickets and osteomalacia.
