Isolated cystic cervical swelling may be a presentation of a branchial cyst, tubercular lymphadenitis, or maybe a metastatic lymphadenopathy from different head and neck subsites like pharynx and thyroid, etc. The location or level of swelling may give hints towards the primary pathology from where it spreads. Aspiration cytology and radiology sometimes fail to confirm its malignant nature and the primary site of origin.

The cytological features of the hobnail variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma may be subtle. It is important to recognize this variant because it may influence the corresponding surgical treatment and follow-up due to its aggressive nature. The hobnail subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma is a rare entity with aggressive features.

Objective: Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are commonly employed in pre-operative evaluation for cochlear implant surgery. However, with a decrease in the age of implantation, even minor radiation exposure can cause detrimental effects on children over their lifetime. The current study compares different cochlear measurements from CT and MRI scans and evaluates the feasibility of using only an MRI scan for radiological evaluation before cochlear implantation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the prevalence of skip metastases in patients with Oral-squamous-cell-carcinoma (OSCC) who underwent neck dissection alongside surgery for the primary tumor.
  • Out of 100 biopsied OSCC cases, 36% showed cervical lymph node metastases, primarily at levels I, II, and III, but only 4 cases presented with skip metastases to levels IIb, III, and V.
  • The findings suggest that extensive neck dissections may be unnecessary for certain patients, potentially reducing complications and morbidities linked to surgical procedures.
