Background: For patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), direct coronary angiography (CA) is recommended, while for non-AMI patients, the diagnostic work-up depends on clinical criteria. This analysis provides initial prospective German data for the degree of guideline-adherence (GL) in the use of CA on non-AMI patients presenting at the emergency department (ED) with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) according to the 2015 ESC-ACS-GL. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a widely used sensing technique for ultrasensitivity chemical sensing, biomedical detection, and environmental analysis. Because SERS signal is proportional to the fourth power of the local electric field, several SERS applications have focused on the design of plasmonic nanogaps to take advantage of the extremely strong near-field enhancement that results from plasmonic coupling, but few designs have focused on how SERS detection is affected by molecular orientation within these nanogaps. Here, we demonstrate a nanoparticle-on-metal metasurface designed for near-perfect optical absorption as a platform for Raman detection of highly oriented molecular analytes, including two-dimensional materials and aromatic molecules.

Formation of skeletal muscle is among the most striking examples of cellular plasticity in animal tissue development, and while muscle progenitor cells are reprogrammed by epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) to migrate during embryonic development, the regulation of EMT in post-natal myogenesis remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) regulates EMT in myoblast differentiation and skeletal muscle regeneration. Chronic inhibition of in C2C12 myoblasts induced EMT, and suppressed cell state transitions required for differentiation.

Flooding can reduce corn growth and yield, but nitrogen (N) management practices may alter the degree to which plants are negatively impacted. Caloric restriction (CR) is the leading non-pharmaceutical dietary intervention to improve health- and lifespan in most model organisms. A wide array of cellular pathways is induced in response to CR and CR-mimetics, including the transcriptional activator Nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), which is essential in the upregulation of multiple stress-responsive and mitochondrial enzymes. Nrf2 is necessary in tumor protection but is not essential for the lifespan extending properties of CR in outbred mice.

The imprinted genomic region harbors a noncoding RNA cluster encoding over fifty microRNAs (miRNAs), three long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), and a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) gene array. These distinct noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) are thought to arise from a single polycistronic transcript that is subsequently processed into individual ncRNAs, each with important roles in diverse cellular contexts.
