A new nicotine delivery system in the form of tobacco-free nicotine pouches was introduced in Europe in 2019. These nicotine bags did not fall under the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) II, which brought forward regulatory requirements for both cigarettes, related products, and e-liquids. As these pouches did not fall under the scope of the TPD, it was up to the member states to decide which action to be taken if any.

Because of the increasing popularity of e-cigarettes, monitoring the e-cigarette market has become important for national health authorities to guarantee safety and quality. In the EU, the Tobacco Products Directive requires emission studies for e-cigarette products. The absence of industry guidelines for studying these emissions and the lack of proper validation in the literature led us to develop and validate a method using the total error approach for the determination of nicotine in e-cigarette aerosols.

Physicians working with physician assistants and nurse practitioners: perceived effects on clinical practice.

Physicians in the United States are increasingly working with physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs), but little is known about how they perceive working with PAs and NPs affects their clinical practice. We used a new national survey to examine physicians' perceptions of working with PAs and/or NPs on their patient volume, care quality, time use, and workload. Among our analytical sample of 5823 physicians, 59% reported working with PAs and/or NPs.

Re-evaluation of the methodology for estimating the US specialty physician workforce.

Increasing pursuit of subspecialized training has quietly revolutionized physician training, but the potential impact on physician workforce estimates has not previously been recognized. The Physicians Specialty Data Reports of the Association of American Medical Colleges, derived from specialty designations in the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Professional Data (PPD), are the reference source for US physician workforce estimates; by 2020, the report for pathologists was an undercount of 39% when compared with the PPD. Most of the difference was due to the omission of pathology subspecialty designations.

Durvalumab Plus Gemcitabine and Cisplatin in Patients with Advanced Biliary Tract Cancer: An Exploratory Analysis of Real-World Data.

Background: The combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin (gem/cis) with the anti-PD-L1-antibody durvalumab was recently approved as first line therapy for biliary tract cancer (BTC) based on the results of the TOPAZ-1 trial.

Objective: We aim to analyse the feasibility and efficacy of the triple combination therapy in patients with BTC in a real-world setting and in correspondence with the genetic alterations of the cancer.

While several studies have documented the rapid growth in telehealth visits during the pandemic, none have examined its relationship with greater overall access to care among vulnerable populations. We use Association of American Medical Colleges' Consumer Survey data to examine the relationship between access to care and telehealth use before and during the pandemic. The proportion of survey respondents who were always able to get medical care when needed was slightly lower in 2020 compared with prior years while telehealth use rose dramatically.
