Hence, the reliability and accuracy of groundwater salinity predictive models are paramount for effective decision-making in managing groundwater resources. This pioneering study presents the validation of a predictive model aimed at forecasting groundwater salinity levels using three different validation methods and various data partitioning strategies.

Heart Rate Variability as a Neuroautonomic Marker to Assess the Impact of Karate Training - An Observational Pediatric Study.

Habitual physical activity improves heart functions and parasympathetic tone; Karate training is considered as a moderate physical activity with rhythmical breathing patternology. Heart rate variability (HRV) is an electrophysiological tool which measures cardio autonomic homeostasis; is used in the present study as an indirect marker to measure neurocognitive development with karate training. The aim of the present study was to find out the impact of regular karate training on cardiac autonomic responses through Heart Rate Variability (HRV) between karate players and age-sex matched active controls.

Selective inhibition of peptidyl-arginine deiminase (PAD): can it control multiple inflammatory disorders as a promising therapeutic strategy?

Peptidyl arginine deiminases (PADs) are a family of post-translational modification enzymes that irreversibly citrullinate (deiminate) arginine residues of protein and convert them to a non-classical amino acid citrulline in the presence of calcium ions. It has five isotypes, such as PAD1, PAD2, PAD3, PAD4, and PAD6, found in mammalian species. It has been suggested that increased PAD expression in various tissues contributes to the development of multiple inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), cancer, diabetes, and neurological disorders.

Biosensors based detection of novel biomarkers associated with COVID-19: Current progress and future promise.

The pandemic situation of COVID-19 has caused global alarm in health care, devastating loss of lives, strangled economy, and paralysis of normal livelihood. The high inter-individual transmission rate created havoc in the global community. Although tremendous efforts are pitching in from across the globe to understand this disease, the clinical features seemed to have a wide range including fever, cough, and fatigue are the prominent features.

Polymyxin B-Induced Kidney Injury Assessment of a Novel Formulation of Polymyxin B (VRP-034) in Rats.

Despite the crucial role of Polymyxin-B in treating life-threatening gram-negative infections, its clinical utility is limited due to the risk of acute kidney injury. In response, a novel formulation of polymyxin-B is being developed to mitigate drug-induced kidney injury. In this study, we have assessed the toxicity of four variants of that novel formulation (VRP034_F21-F24) in comparison with standard polymyxin-B using kidney injury biomarkers in rats.

Evidence of prenatal toxicity of herbal based indigenous formulations for sex selection in rat models.

Unlabelled: Indigenous preparations(IPs) for a male child is reported from some parts of India. The present study aims to explore the effects of IPs for sex selection or sex selection drugs (SSDs) on pregnancy outcomes in rat models. SSDs contain along with other ingredients.

The Gastroprotective Role of Acanthus ilicifolius - A Study to Unravel the Underlying Mechanism of Anti-Ulcer Activity.

Acanthus ilicifolius (Acanthaceae), a mangrove medicinal plant, is widely used by the local inhabitants of the Sundarbans (India) to treat a variety of diseases. As a part of our continued search for novel bioactive products from mangrove medicinal plants, we were able to document the anti-inflammatory effects of this plant. In the present study, we have performed a detailed evaluation of the gastroprotective activity of the methanolic extract of Acanthus ilicifolius using different models of gastric ulceration.

Anti-inflammatory activity of Acanthus ilicifolius.

Acanthus ilicifolius Linn, is a perennial herb (Acanthaceae) widely found in the Sundarban mangroves and is popularly used for its wound healing effects. In the present study an attempt was made to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the Acanthus ilicifolius leaves. The methanolic fraction of Acanthus ilicifolius leaf extract produced significant inhibition of rat paw oedema, when administered both prior to and after carrageenan administration, in a manner similar to BW755C a synthetic cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) inhibitor.

Pharmacological studies on Indian black tea (leaf variety) in acute and chronic inflammatory conditions.

Infusions of Indian black tea (BTI), when administered orally, produced significant inhibition of rat paw oedema, induced with carrageenin (pre and post treatment) and arachidonic acid. BTI was also found to inhibit peritoneal capillary permeability and caused a marked reduction of lipopolysaccharide induced PGE(2) generation. In these models, the observed antioedema effect was similar to that of BW755C (a dual inhibitor of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes).

Chemoimmunotherapeutic approach to prolonged survival time in combination with immunization and glutamic Acid derivatives with antitumor activity in tumor-bearing mice.

Cancer is one of the major causes of death. For cancer, the general conventional treatment and standard of care for clinical oncology remains surgery followed by radiation and/or systemic chemotherapy as deemed appropriate based on the clinical findings. Chemoimmunotherapy is an approach to treat cancer where chemotherapy is given along with immunotherapy.

Noise propagation in linear and nonlinear inverse scattering.

The propagation of noise from the data to the reconstructed speed of sound image by inverse scattering within the framework of the Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation of scattering is discussed. The inversion algorithm that was used consisted in minimizing a Tikhonov functional in the unknown speed of sound. The gradient of the objective functional was computed by the method of the adjoint fields.

Generalized optical theorem for scattering in inhomogeneous media.

The scattering of scalar waves by objects embedded in an inhomogeneous medium contained by a bounded volume is discussed using the method of pseudopotentials. The scattering amplitude for the object in an extended uniform medium is assumed known and used as input. The scattering process is described by using an expansion of the scattering amplitude in terms of spherical harmonics.

Anti-inflammatory activity of Indian black tea (Sikkim variety).

In this study, the anti-inflammatory (in reference to the cardinal signs of inflammation) and other related pharmacological activities of the hot water extract of black tea (Camellia sinensis, Sikkim variety) were evaluated along with certain standard drugs. The extract showed significant inhibitory activity against carrageenin, histamine, serotonin and prostaglandin-induced pedal inflammation. The extract inhibited exudative inflammation.
