Hypocholesterolaemia as a prognostic factor in venomous snakebite: a retrospective study from a single centre in Kerala, India.

Background: Studies have suggested a association between serum cholesterol values and severity of envenoming. The objective of the study was to correlate the serum cholesterol levels with severity of envenoming in victims of snakebite, across snake species in our patient population.

Methods: Retrospective secondary data analysis of health records of a cohort of snakebite victims treated at Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, Kerala during June 2006-January 2008 was performed.

Ligninolytic behavior of the white-rot fungus under influence of culture conditions, inducers and chlorpyrifos.

The production of three ligninolytic enzymes, laccase (LAC), manganese peroxidase (MnP) and lignin peroxidase (LiP) by the white-rot fungus, , was significantly more in Koroljova liquid medium in the presence of chlorpyrifos under shaking conditions than under stationary conditions. Enhanced production of xylanase by sp. BVKT R2 and evaluation of its biomass saccharification efficiency.

Growth of sp. BVKT R2, a potential isolate of forest soils of Eastern Ghats on birchwood xylan in mineral salts medium (MSM) under un-optimized conditions of 30 °C, pH of 5.0, 150 rpm and inoculum size of 5 agar plugs for 7 days, yielded titer of 1290 U/mL of xylanase (EC 3.
