Background: With the current shift toward de-escalation of surgical management in low-risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), understanding predictors and the clinical significance of additional tumors in the contralateral lobe is important. This study investigated the histopathologic predictors of bilateral disease in low-risk PTC patients and the utility of preoperative ultrasonography in guiding completion thyroidectomy decisions.
Methods: Patients treated with total thyroidectomy (TT) for low-risk PTCs (< 4 cm) at the Endocrine Surgical Unit of the Royal North Shore Hospital, University of Sydney from 2013 to 2020 were identified from a prospectively maintained database.
Background: Robotic suturing training is in increasing demand and can be done using suture-pads or robotic simulation training. Robotic simulation is less cumbersome, whereas a robotic suture-pad approach could be more effective but is more costly. A training curriculum with crossover between both approaches may be a practical solution.

Background: Optimizing transitional care by practicing family-centered care might reduce unplanned events for patients who undergo major abdominal cancer surgery. However, it remains unknown whether involving family caregivers in patients' healthcare also has negative consequences for patient safety. This study assessed the safety of family involvement in patients' healthcare by examining the cause of unplanned events in patients who participated in a family involvement program (FIP) after major abdominal cancer surgery.

Patients And Methods: All patients who underwent PD for NF-PanNETs (2007-2016) in different centers were included in this retrospective study.
During thyroid surgery fast and reliable intra-operative pathological feedback has the potential to avoid a two-stage procedure and significantly reduce health care costs in patients undergoing a diagnostic hemithyroidectomy (HT). We explored higher harmonic generation (HHG) microscopy, which combines second harmonic generation (SHG), third harmonic generation (THG), and multiphoton excited autofluorescence (MPEF) for this purpose. With a compact, portable HHG microscope, images of freshly excised healthy tissue, benign nodules (follicular adenoma) and malignant tissue (papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma and spindle cell carcinoma) were recorded.

Guided by key clinical questions practical advice on the diagnosis and management of neuroendocrine tumours (NET) of the caecum, colon, and rectum is provided. Although covered in one guidance paper colorectal NET comprises a heterogeneous group of neoplasms.

We aimed to assess the malignant potential of appendiceal NETs of 1-2 cm in size in patients with or without right-sided hemicolectomy.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we pooled data from 40 hospitals in 15 European countries for patients of any age and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status with a histopathologically confirmed appendiceal NET of 1-2 cm in size who had a complete resection of the primary tumour between Jan 1, 2000, and Dec 31, 2010.
Backgrounds: COVID-19 related reduction of surgical procedures jeopardizes learning on the job of surgical residents. Many educators resorted to digital resources in the search for alternatives. However, these resources are often limited to the extent they offer resident-surgeon interaction like a joint surgical performance does.

Methods: An ECCO COllaborative Network For Exceptionally Rare case reports project [ECCO-CONFER] collects cases of GEP-NENs diagnosed in patients with IBD.
Results: GEP-NEN was diagnosed in 100 IBD patients; 61% female, 55% Crohn's disease, median age 48 years (interquartile range [IQR] 38-59]).
Background: Small bowel neuroendocrine neoplasms (SB-NEN) are rare cancers, population-based studies are needed to study this rare indolent disease. The aim of this study was to explore trends in epidemiology, treatment and survival outcomes of patients with SB-NEN based on Dutch nationwide data.
Patients And Methods: Patients with grade 1 or 2 SB-NEN diagnosed between 2005 and 2015 were retrieved from the Netherlands Cancer Registry and linked to The Nationwide Network and Registry of Histo- and Cytopathology in the Netherlands.
Background: The role of portal vein resection for pancreatic cancer is well established but not for pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms. Evidence from studies providing information on long-term outcome after venous resection in pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms patients is lacking.
Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective cohort study comparing pancreaticoduodenectomy with vein resection with standard pancreaticoduodenectomy in patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms.
Background: We sought to define the diagnostic yield and concordance rates between endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and surgical pathology specimen following resection of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNET) less than 2 cm.
Methods: Patients with a pNET less than 2 cm who underwent EUS-FNA were identified using a multi-institutional international database. Tumor differentiation, and Ki-67 index, as determined through EUS-FNA were examined and concordance rates between EUS-FNA and the surgical pathology were assessed.
Change of respiratory rate (RespR) is the most powerful predictor of clinical deterioration. Brady- (RespR ≤ 8) and tachypnea (RespR ≥ 31) are associated with serious adverse events. Simultaneously, RespR is the least accurately measured vital parameter.

We reviewed all studies on postoperative complications and survival after resection of pNET. A systematic search was performed in the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE and EMBASE from 2000-2013.

Aim was to analyze the postoperative complications for each operation separately. Furthermore, independent risk factors for complications and incidence of pancreatic insufficiency were analyzed.

Ultrasonography could allow for early detection of DTC, however, its value is yet unclear since the prognosis of DTC is excellent. We addressed the evidence for the question: 'is outcome of DTC influenced by tumor stage at diagnosis?'.

The Dutch Adrenal Network (DAN) was initiated with the aim to improve patient care and to stimulate scientific research on ACC. Currently, not all patients with ACC are treated in specialized DAN hospitals.

Other than this she had no symptoms. During the physical examination a solid elastic, non-fixed swelling with a diameter of about 3 cm was palpable on the right of the neck, medially to the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Two compounds displayed herbicidal activity in pre-emergence tests and in addition a cell expansion assay at higher concentrations revealed symptomology of a third compound that was indicative of inhibition of cellulose biosynthesis.
