Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) remains a significant challenge after heart transplantation, necessitating effective surveillance methods. This review centers around the role of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in CAV surveillance, given its unique capabilities to visualize and quantify CAV in comparison with other imaging modalities, including invasive coronary angiography and intravascular ultrasound. CCTA has shown good diagnostic performance for detecting and monitoring CAV, exemplified by a higher sensitivity and negative predictive value compared with invasive coronary angiography.

Since the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4 receptors, survival has improved significantly for patients with irresectable and metastatic skin cancer, including cutaneous squamous cell cancer and melanoma. However, systemic administration of these drugs is associated with immune related adverse events (irAEs), which can be severe, irreversible and even fatal. To reduce the risk of irAEs associated with systemic exposure to immunotherapeutic drugs, local administration of low doses could be considered.

Article Synopsis
  • * Nitrogen dopants mainly affect the selectivity of ORR products by generating hydroperoxide, while VGs improve the reaction kinetics and water output.
  • * The study suggests that both VGs and nitrogen dopants, along with oxygen dopants, contribute to the overall ORR activity, challenging the notion that only nitrogen species are responsible for catalysis in carbon materials.

Background: Patients with irresectable stage III or metastatic melanoma presenting with poor prognostic factors are usually treated with a combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), consisting of ipilimumab and nivolumab. This combination therapy is associated with severe immune related adverse events (irAEs) in about 60% of patients. In current clinical practice, patients are usually treated with ICIs for up to two years or until disease progression or the occurrence of unacceptable AEs.

Purpose: Assessing frailty, in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients is key when choosing appropriate treatment. Optimal screening is challenging, as it should be feasible and should avoid over-referral for comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) This study aims to evaluate the association between geriatric assessment using a new two-step care pathway, referral to geriatrician and adverse outcomes.

Methods: This institutional retrospective analysis on a prospective cohort analysed the multimodal geriatric assessment (GA) of newly diagnosed HNC patients.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) mainly affects small joints. Despite the mechanical function of joints, the role of mechanical stress in the development of arthritis is insufficiently understood. We hypothesised that mechanical stress/physical strain is a risk factor for joint inflammation in RA.

Purpose: Programming a cochlear implant (fitting) is an essential part of a user's post-implantation journey, defining how sound will be translated into electrical stimulation and aiming to provide optimal speech perception outcomes. Currently, there are no established, evidence-based guidelines for fitting cochlear implant users, leading to a high degree of variability in fitting practices, users' parameters, and probably outcomes. In this study a data-driven approach is used to retrospectively investigate the relation between cochlear implant fitting parameters and speech perception outcomes in post-lingually deafened adults.

Microbial evolution is driven by rapid changes in gene content mediated by horizontal gene transfer (HGT). While mobile genetic elements (MGEs) are important drivers of gene flux, the nanobiome-the zoo of Darwinian replicators that depend on microbial hosts-remains poorly characterised. New approaches are necessary to increase our understanding beyond MGEs shaping individual populations, towards their impacts on complex microbial communities.
