This study was performed to determine whether 15-HETE, which is the major metabolite of arachidonic acid (AA) in inflamed and normal human colonic tissue, has pro- or anti-inflammatory properties. To investigate these effects, 15-HETE (100 micrograms/kg/day) was administered rectally to mice with colitis induced by dextran sodium sulphate (DSS). Colons were removed and examined macroscopically and histologically and specimens were incubated with [14C]-AA and stimulated with A23187.

A decomposition product of these Prussian blue salts may be the highly toxic cyanide. A method to simulate gastrointestinal cyanide-release was applied to four different Prussian blue salts: K3Fe[Fe(CN)6], Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3, NH4Fe[Fe(CN)6] (pur.

It was concluded that some 83% of 98 KNP lion sera reacted with the p24 antigen, while none of 28 ENP lion sera reacted. A few other KNP felids (cheetahs and genets) gave samples that did not react with the FIV p24 antigen.

In addition, the passive elastic properties in early and late diastole change when the ventricle dilates. Diastolic properties of the left ventricle were studied in 11 patients with congestive heart failure class II-IV (NYHA) before and 3 months after 10-20 mg enalapril was added to their regimen of salt restriction, a diuretic and occasionally digitalis.

In the seven dogs studied, 19 conductance catheter and simultaneous Cine-CT runs were obtained. High correlation coefficients were found for total volume and segmental volumes, except in the basal segment.

In an interaction involving a 1:1 molar ratio of these two proteins, when they are unlabeled, the overlap of absorbance of the amide I band arising from the peptide group vibrations of the two proteins is such that it is not possible to determine the contribution which each protein makes to the absorbance. Uniform 15N labeling has little effect on the frequency of the amide I band although there is a significant shift of the amide II band.

The following measurements were recorded: height, weight, signs of puberty, and menarche. Trunk abnormality was assessed in the erect child (asymmetry of shoulders, waistline, imbalance of the trunk, scoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis, swayback, and flexibility) and by the forward bending test (rib hump or lumbar prominence, persistence of scoliosis, kyphosis, deviant lateral aspect); 85.

However, antibiotic prophylaxis in patients with a urinary catheter is opposed because of the fear of inducing resistant bacterial strains. We have done a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of prophylactic ciprofloxacin in selected groups of surgical patients who had postoperative bladder drainage scheduled to last for 3 to 14 days.

Mice were treated with olsalazine (400 mg/kg body wt) starting 7 days before the DSS or CARR administration.

The main eicosanoids formed after stimulation with calcium ionophore A23187 were: in humans, 15-hydroxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (15-HETE); in mice, 12-HETE; in rats, 12-HETE, 12-hydroxy-5,8,10-heptadecatrienoic acid (HHT) and 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha (6kPGF1 alpha); in guinea pigs, PGD2; in rabbits, 6kPGF1 alpha, PGE2 and 15-HETE; and in pigs PGE2 and 12-HETE. In inflamed 15-HETE production was increased in man, HHT and 12-HETE production in rats and overall eicosanoid production in mice.

Seven patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass surgery were studied to assess left ventricular (LV) performance by pressure-volume loops. LV pressure was measured by micromanometry and instantaneous LV volume by a conductance catheter. Continuous pressure-volume relationships were determined during preload reduction before and after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).

The reaction is very fast but is inhibited by labeling the protein with Bolton-Hunter reagent.
