Changes of Colorectal Cancer Diagnostics and Hospitalizations during First Wave of COVID-19 Pandemic in Lithuania.

Purpose: Our aim was to see the possible effect of the first COVID pandemic wave in Lithuania on colorectal cancer (CRC) preventive, diagnostic and treatment procedures.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using the database of the National Cancer Institute, Lithuania. We have divided patients into two groups: group 1 - patients treated during the nonpandemic period (2019 January 1 to 2019 July 31) and group 2 - the pandemic period (2020 January 1 to 2020 July 31).

Diagnosis and Management of Perineal Hernias.

A 72-year-old male patient presented to our outpatient clinic complaining with a perineal bulge one year after abdominoperineal excision for rectal cancer. He described a progressively enlarging bulge in the perineum causing a dull pain that was worse when sitting. On examination, the skin was intact, and a soft 7-cm hernia was identified that could be reduced into the pelvis but recurred immediately.

Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision: Is There a Real Advantage? The Baltic View.

Background: The novel surgical procedure transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) has rapidly become an interest of research in order to overcome the shortcomings of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of middle and low rectal cancer. taTME is a new natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery modality combining three rectal surgery techniques.

Methods: A retrospective clinical study was conducted in a single centre for a period of 3 years, and herein we report on our first 25 taTME procedures in patients with middle and lower third rectal adenocarcinoma.
