An important aspect of the diagnostic and prognostic work-up of patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy is the assessment of myocardial viability. Patients with left ventricular dysfunction who have viable myocardium are the patients at highest risk because of the potential for ischaemia but at the same time benefit most from revascularisation. It is important to identify viable myocardium in these patients, and radionuclide myocardial scintigraphy is an excellent tool for this.

While some authors consider it as fact, others believe that it is just a technical artifact. Within our department, chromium-51 ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (Cr-EDTA) renal clearance is systematically performed in conjunction with technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) renograms to derive an absolute single kidney glomerular filtration rate (SKGFR).

Due to the increase in detector blocks, the improved energy resolution and the trends towards time of flight, dynamic and gated imaging, it can be more appropriate to store the data in listmode format.

The aim of the study was to assess the reproducibility of LVEF measurement with planar radionuclide ventriculography within 3 h, using a standard single dose of radioactive tracer.
Methods: Sixteen patients underwent routine planar radionuclide ventriculography with a standard dose of 500 MBq of [Tc]pertechnetate and returned after 3 h for a repeat planar radionuclide ventriculography without administration of additional tracer.
Because loss of functional renal mass is compensated by hyperfiltration of remaining tissue, one could hypothesize that a damaged kidney might not have the same rate of maturation as the contralateral one. To verify this, maturation was evaluated in children with asymmetrical renal function during early life. Twenty-five children were selected having had 2 (99m)Tc-MAG3 renograms combined with (51)Cr-EDTA clearance measurement, enabling estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), split renal function (SRF), and single kidney GFR (SKGFR).

In general, the hospital organisation of the present requires substantial changes in order to be competitive, economical, and abreast of the rapid progresses in medical developments and patient management. It also must be flexible to changes in health politics.

Since the introduction of the European directive, all pharmaceuticals used in clinical studies must be prepared under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions. This review aims to give an overview of the basic principles and guidelines for the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals.

Knowledge for and compliance with good clinical practice (GCP) is essential for anyone involved. In this review article, key aspects of GCP and the responsibilities of investigators, monitors and sponsors are described.

Performance on the Tower of London (TOL) task, which includes setting up and maintaining multiple subgoals at the same time, has been shown to depend on intact prefrontal cortices. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with 99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer was used to compare cognitive activation in nine depressed patients and nine normal controls during performance of the TOL task.

We also searched for associations between temperament dimensions and cortical 5-HT2) binding.
Method: About 9 restrictive and 7 bulimic anorexia nervosa patients were examined and cortical 123I-5-I-R91150 binding index values were compared between the two subgroups.
In building and tuning good settling models for secondary clarifiers of wastewater treatment plants, there is a need for measured continuous solids concentration profiles during batch settling. Conventional measuring techniques have difficulties in recording this kind of data, either because they are invasive, or because of the low solids concentration and/or solids density of activated sludge. This paper investigates a novel non-invasive measurement technique borrowed from nuclear medicine, using a solids radiotracer and gamma cameras, to obtain solids concentration profiles during the batch settling of activated sludge, in a pilot-scale column with a height of 1m.

Methods: We tested the impact of selected waiting experience variables on the evaluation of service quality, measured using the Servqual tool, of 406 patients in nuclear medicine, with objective and subjective waiting times as co-variates. The sequence of events in service delivery in nuclear medicine (waiting time before injection, waiting time before scanning and total waiting time) is taken into account.
In this paper, the use of (123)I-Annexin V for the detection of farnesyltransferase inhibitor (FTI)-induced apoptosis in tumour-bearing athymic mice is described. In vitro binding assays on LoVo cells show time- and dosage-dependent (125)I-Annexin V binding upon treatment with Tipifarnib (Zarnestra, R115777), a selective and potent FTI. In vivo experiments using planar gamma scintigraphy on LoVo inoculated mice show a 40% increased (123)I-Annexin V uptake 8 h after a single oral administration of 100 mg/kg Tipifarnib in 20% beta-cyclodextrin in 0.

Background: Cervical spine manipulation is one of the many interventions practiced by health professionals to treat musculoskeletal disorders of the cervical spine. Although serious consequences of manipulation have been documented, the incidence is thought to be rare. More frequently, there may be minor transient side effects after manipulation of the cervical spine, such as headache, dizziness, and nausea.

Methods: Eight healthy subjects and 22 MS patients were included. Semiquantitative [11C]PK11195 uptake values, with normalization on cortical grey matter, were measured for magnetic resonance imaging T2- and T1-lesions and normal appearing white matter (NAWM).
This work reports the synthesis, radiolabelling and preliminary in vivo evaluation of [(123)I]-(4-fluorophenyl){1-[2-(4-iodophenyl)ethyl]piperidin-4-yl}methanone. The tributylstannylprecursor was synthesized with a yield of 30%. Radiolabelling was performed using an electrophilic iododestannylation.

The aim of this study was to validate and compare these parameters obtained using four different TRV software programs (QBS, QUBE, 4D-MSPECT and BP-SPECT).
Methods: LVEF obtained from planar radionuclide ventriculography (PRV) was compared with LVEF obtained from TRV using the four different software programs in 166 patients.
Unlabelled: The application of 123I-3-iodo-alpha-methyltyrosine is limited to diagnosis of brain tumors due to its marked long-term uptake in kidneys. In vitro evaluation of 125I-2-iodo-L-phenylalanine showed high uptake in R1M cells by L-type amino acid transport system 1 (LAT1). This study evaluates 123I-2-iodo-L-phenylalanine as a new specific tumor tracer for SPECT.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of citalopram hydrobromide (a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) on the 5-HT(2A) receptor and brain perfusion in impulsive-aggressive dogs by means of single-photon emission computed tomography.
Methods: The binding index of the radioligand (123)I-5-I-R91150 was measured before and after treatment with citalopram hydrobromide in nine impulsive-aggressive dogs.
In this study, in vivo evaluation in mice and rabbits of [123I]-4-iodo-N-(4-(4-(2-methoxyphenyl)-piperazin-1-yl)butyl)-benzamide ([123I]-BPB), a potential radioligand for visualisation of the sigma receptor by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), is reported.
