Main Clinical and Laboratory Features of Children with Bacterial Meningitis: Experience from a Tertiary Paediatric Centre in Central Vietnam.

Objective: Our study aimed to summarize symptoms and laboratory findings of bacterial meningitis at a Vietnam tertiary care hospital.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study and enrolled 33 children diagnosed with bacterial meningitis admitted at the Pediatric Center, Hue Central Hospital, between January 2019 and July 2021.

Status Epilepticus Secondary to Hypocalcemia Due to Vitamin D Deficiency.

Vitamin D deficiency is becoming more common around the world, owing to reduced sunshine exposure and an imbalanced diet. However, severe hypocalcemia as a result of vitamin D insufficiency is a rare occurrence, and it rarely leads to seizures in children. We present such a case in a 6-month-old infant who presented with status epilepticus secondary to hypocalcemia due to vitamin D deficiency, which was first misdiagnosed as epilepsy.

A case study of three patients with mucopolysaccharidoses in Hue Central Hospital.

Mucopolysaccharidosis is a group of rare metabolic disorders characterized by a deficiency of enzymes in the degradation of glycosaminoglycans. The incomplete degradation process leads to the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans in lysosomes of various tissues, which interferes with cell function. We report three cases that were classified as Hurler-Mucopolysaccharidosis I, Morquio-Mucopolysaccharidosis IV A, and Maroteaux-Lamy-Mucopolysaccharidosis VI.
