Potential Drug Interactions Between Psychotropics and Intravenous Chemotherapeutics Used by Patients With Cancer.

Patients undergoing cancer treatment usually have comorbidities, and psychiatric disorders are commonly seen in these patients. For the treatment of these psychiatric disorders, the use of psychotropic drugs is common, turning these patients susceptible to untoward drug interactions. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of clinically relevant drug-drug interactions (DDI) between chemotherapeutic and psychotropic agents in patients with cancer treated at an oncology service in southern Brazil.

Instruments measuring pregnant women's expectations of labor and childbirth: A systematic review.

To systematically identify studies about the assessment of pregnant women's expectations, using measuring instruments. An online search was made of Medline/PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, CAPES and LILACS databases in national and international publications from their first indexation until December 2018, using words associated with expectations during pregnancy. This review included observational studies that presented instruments to measure the expectations of pregnant women; observational studies that described the instrument development or tested the psychometric properties of an instrument.

Obesity Exacerbates Sepsis-Induced Oxidative Damage in Organs.

Sepsis progression is linked to the imbalance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidant enzymes. Sepsis affects multiple organs, but when associated with a chronic inflammatory disease, such as obesity, it may be exacerbated. We hypothesized that obesity could aggravate the oxidative damage to peripheral organs of rats submitted to an animal model of sepsis.

Obesity promotes oxidative stress and exacerbates sepsis-induced brain damage.

Sepsis is a severe clinical syndrome in which a system-wide inflammatory response follows initial attempts to eliminate pathogens. It is not novel that in sepsis the brain is one of the first organs affected which causes an increase in morbidity and mortality and its consequences may be exacerbated when associated with a diagnosis of chronic inflammation, such as in obesity. Thus, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the susceptibility to brain damage after sepsis in obese rats.

Ebselen Attenuates Lung Injury in Experimental Model of Carrageenan-Induced Pleurisy in Rats.

The study evaluates the role of Ebselen (Eb), an organoselenium compound in animal model of acute lung injury induced by carrageenan (CG). Wistar rats received saline or 2 % λ-carrageenan in the pleural cavity, and treatment with Eb (50 mg/kg intragastrically) or dexamethasone (Dx) (0.5 mg/kg intraperitoneal) after CG administration.
