The human protein Abelson kinase (Abl), a tyrosine kinase, plays a pivotal role in developing chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Abl's involvement in various signaling pathways underscores its significance in regulating fundamental biological processes, including DNA damage responses, actin polymerization, and chromatin structural changes. The discovery of the Bcr-Abl oncoprotein, resulting from a chromosomal translocation in CML patients, revolutionized the understanding and treatment of the disease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAround the world, many couples have turned to in vitro fertilization as a viable solution to fertility issues. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a protein best known for transporting fat molecules throughout the body, but it has also been shown to protect sperm cells during cryopreservation due to its micellar structure. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate different protocols for the preparation of nanoparticles from egg yolk plasma (EYP) containing LDL to improve the viability of cryopreserved canine semen.

Background: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is typically accompanied by changes in movement pattern. However, it is unclear if these changes persist in the remission phase of symptoms. Investigating movement patterns in individuals in remission phase of PFP may help to further guide the rehabilitation process and to understand whether changes are due to high levels of pain or related to other factors.

This enzyme's activation might be an alternative strategy for treating diseases such as neutropenia induced by chemotherapy, prostate, and breast cancer. Recently, a series of compounds that promote the activation of c-Abl has been identified, opening a promising ground for c-Abl drug development.

Infection is one of the most serious complications of this technique, and although percutaneous treatment has been well established for intra-abdominal collections, its use to treat peri-prosthetic fluid collections has not been well determined. In this article we describe a small series of three patients who were treated with percutaneous drainage, with good clinical and imaging responses.

The unbalance of alpha-gamma chain and the presence of pathological free iron promote severe oxidative damage, playing crucial a role in erythrocyte hemolysis, exacerbating ineffective erythropoiesis and decreasing the lifespan of red blood cells (RBC). Catalase, glutathione peroxidase and peroxiredoxins act together to protect RBCs from hydrogen peroxide insult.

A single center study with retrospective analysis of patients with psoas abscess confirmed by imaging scans, sent to the interventional medicine center and submitted to computed tomography and ultrasound-guided percutaneous drainage, from November 2013 to August 2016. Seven patients underwent percutaneous drainage of psoas abscess in this period.

Materials And Methods: Inpatient crack-cocaine users who had been abstinent for at least four weeks and age-matched non-drug-using controls underwent resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Images were acquired while the subjects rested with their eyes closed.

Background: Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare tumor. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice when feasible, but there are no clear recommendations for patients with advanced disease. Liver-directed therapy with Y-90 selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) has been used to treat hepatic metastases from pancreatic tumors.

Ultrasound image despeckling is an important research field, since it can improve the interpretability of one of the main categories of medical imaging. Many techniques have been tried over the years for ultrasound despeckling, and more recently, a great deal of attention has been focused on patch-based methods, such as non-local means and block-matching collaborative filtering (BM3D). A common idea in these recent methods is the measure of distance between patches, originally proposed as the Euclidean distance, for filtering additive white Gaussian noise.

Acquired telomerase reverse transcriptase gene promoter (TERTp) mutations are among the most frequent somatic non-coding mutations in cancers. In this study, the prevalence of TERTp mutations in 24 MCL and 21 other lymphoid neoplasias (oLN) was investigated.

Methods: Data came from a valuation study with 3362 literate individuals aged between 18 and 64 years living in urban areas. The present study was based on quota sampling by age and sex.
A mean-shift clustering (MSC) algorithm is introduced as a valuable alternative to perform materials phase classification from multispectral images. As opposed to other multivariate statistical techniques, such as factor analysis or principal component analysis (PCA), clustering techniques directly assign a class label to each pixel, so that their outputs are phase segmented images, i.e.

The patients were distributed in five different groups: Group 1, HIV-infected without antiretroviral therapy; Group 2, with Zidovudine, Lamivudine and Efavirenz or Nevirapine; Group 3, with Zidovudine, Lamivudine and Protease Inhibitor; Group 4, with Stavudine, Lamivudine and Efavirenz or Nevirapine; and Group 5, with Stavudine, Lamivudine and Protease Inhibitor. The lipid and glucose profile were determined and statistics comparison was made.
