Abstract: Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-based nanocomposites have attracted increasing attention due to their inherent outstanding properties. Nevertheless, the realization of high levels of dispersion of nanosilicas in PDMS represents a challenge arising from the poor compatibility between the two components. Herein, we explore the use of ionic interactions located at the interface between silica and a PDMS matrix by combining anionic sulfonate-functionalized silica and cationic ammonium-functionalized PDMS.

The AlN film quality and the interface between the film and the foils are meticulously investigated by means of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and the adhesion test. An interface (transition) layer of partially amorphous AlO/AlON with thicknesses of 10 and 20 nm, corresponding to the films grown on Ni, Fe, and Co foils, is revealed.

Morphological and structural changes in CuCrO upon annealing processes are investigated. Chained copper vacancies were previously suggested as source of the high levels of doping in this material.

Nanotopography with length scales of the order of extracellular matrix elements offers the possibility of regulating cell behavior. Investigation of the impact of nanotopography on cell response has been limited by the inability to precisely control geometries, especially at high spatial resolutions and across practically large areas. In this paper, we demonstrate well-controlled and periodic nanopillar arrays of silicon and investigate their impact on osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).

ESI-FTICRMS demonstrated its ability to characterize and study such compounds, which may be used as precursors of II-VI nanomaterials. The obtained mass spectrum has been found to be highly relevant of the investigated thiophenolate and the fragmentation behavior of some of the detected ions is indicative of its stability.
